Rummaging through a recently aquired coin collection, I've come across an 1854-s type 1 liberty gold dollar. I've made searches on the net and have found that it was produced in San fransisco and some sites saying that the 1854-s is quite collectable? Being in the Uk I am not sure how to get the coin graded which i guess would hugely help the valuation but can only find the 'CGS' grading service here. I've tried my best with a pretty bad camera to take a couple of pictures but find it hard to get a decent one, Here are the best 2 that i've managed. Does anyone here have any idea of value???

These are highly counterfeited. First thing I'd check for is to see if it is the proper weight for a gold coin, if you've got a gram scale around. Or you could take it to your local jeweler and they'll tell you the weight.

I have weighed the coin and it does match what the specification weight is. assuming it is genuine, has anyone got an eye for grading and estimated valuation before it goes off to be graded and valuated by whichever way is best??

REally hard to tell from those pictures, but grade-wise, AU50. I'll speculate it would get a details grade, though. Something looks a bit off about the color.

Has now Been sent to Cgs Uk (didnt want to send to USA coin grading incase of getting lost in transit!) just wanted to know if it was genuine and has been graded as VF55. Have Decided to sell on on a certain auction site and is currently ticking down to auction end, anyone got any guesses on final value?
