How would I find melt? I'm not ever sure what the silver content is, 99% I'm guessing? I got these coins a few weeks ago when my grandfather passed and we're trying to pay off some of his old bills.
Melt would be spot price of each coin, which should be 1oz silver. I'd wait for someone else to chime in, though, I'm not exactly an expert on graded bullion.
Sorry to hear about your grandfather. You may want to take a look at the completed listings of ebay to see what they have sold for recently to get an idea. Try this link: http://completed.shop.ebay.com/i.ht...+silver&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313
Price of silver at 16:15PM this day is $47.95. That's melt value for 1 oz silver bullion coins, which you listed.
I am sorry to hear about your Grandfather! You don't have to pay off his bill's they can't chase him to the grave! Talk to a lawyer I am sure he will tell you your not responsible for his bill's!
I know we don't have to pay off his bills but that was his wish. He was tyhe type of person that want to leave business unfinished.
Ok, these are 1 ounce, so they are about $50 x 9 = $450. If you have any other coins, go here: http://coinflation.com/
There is some horrible advise here...wow Dealers are having a hard time keeping 1 ounce silver bullion in stock. I wouldn't have to try to get at least $1 over spot on any of those, and if I worked at it probably $3 over or more. The Perth mint stuff is $3 over just about anywhere, Apmex is begging for ASE's, the Brittania and Wolf are solid property as is the Libertad.
Agreed - the 0.999 fine silver bullion coins carry a premium over spot. A local dealer was paying $2 over spot and selling them for $5 to $7 over spot. They were flying off of the shelves faster than he could get them. If these are slabbed, graded coins, I would add a few dollars on top of that. The advice to check eBay is good - it will give you an idea of what similar coins are selling for. Unfortunately, it looks like these would have sold for about 8% more last week (silver took a big tumble today).
As far as paying off his bills, good for you. That's a sign that your grandfather passed along some good values, hopefully along with some excess from his estate so that you can go hoist a drink (or pay off your own bills) in his memory!
