Just wondered who is the top US coin dealer, either by reputation or volume of sales (I suppose those two go hand in hand).

I would agree with Chris here,Dave Bowers is probablt the leading U.S. coin dealer today. His years of service to the hobby, his work with his own coin businesses over the years,as well as his prolific writing of numismatic books sets him far ahead of the second place coin dealers.
After Dave,I'd say auction houses like Heritage and Superior probably come next in importance, but there are virtually hundreds of top of the line U.S. coin dealer's out there.I would look for the ANA logo first, then read the fine print. Not all dealer's are reputable, and even the ANA cannot police the entire hobby  .I looked through the dealer listing in Coin World and noticed a couple :guns: 'very questionable' dealer's that are regular advertisers. It's always best to deal with reputable dealer's.If you don't know the dealer, ask around! Someone certainly will know and recommend a good honest dealer.A good way to gain this kind of feedback is by joining a internet club like Error World's "U.S.Coin Collecting" where you'll find dozens of experienced numismatists just waiting to help. ~ Jim

    Thanks

    Thanks for the info Jim.
What are the benefits of joining Error World?
Do you have experts who are willing to help with solving numismatic queries? Is it only confined to US numismatics or does it cover world coinage.

    Hi Maxxy,
EW started as a error & varity coin club, but has expanded to cover both U.S.Coins and World Coins in EW4 and EW5 respectively. EW has full club benefits, including photo albums, links, files, chat rooms, and much more.Member's get to win free prizes in raffles and other occasional contests. They also can get discounts from Stanton Books & Supplies. The best part is that your membership fee can be used to buy yourself a new coin! 8O (everythings free) We also run a full website, our own email service (you@errorworld.org)and at present 5 club rooms. We've also started a magazine which focuses on error coins, but this isn't free due to the costs involved.I'm sure I've missed something,so check it out! Use your same club name so I'll know it's you  We're currently running a raffle in EW2,so be sure to check out the contest page when your there.
Make sure you say hi when you join up!~ Jim
