Is this byzantine coin fake or real? On inverde in 2 o,clock thare is a big hole. maybe it is affect of the plastic casting metod. Surfaces the coin between the fingers is fery fine like soap.
Looks fine to me. Folles of Justin II is common enough that it would be a weird thing to fake (thought there are occasionally fakes of odd coins), and the scratches on it would be a weird thing to put on a fake of an already common coin. The style looks about right to me as well, and there was nothing in Forvm's fake coin reports that looked like this. However, Byzantine's aren't my specialty, so if you are for some reason very worried about this, you might want to run it by someone who specializes more in these things.
Looks good enough to me, and I do collect these. The slickness on the surface can be from the method the coin was cleaned. Some sellers clean them in rock cleaners with plastic balls. While this can clean them cheaply, it will also remove surface metal and make them extra slick to the touch. I try to not buy coins cleaned that way, but I have seen many and yours looks like that. There are one or two sellers on Ebay that sell coins just like this, nice people that I have met but I don't buy their coins.
The hole you're referring to (and there's another at the lower right edge of the officina E) could have been caused by anything over the years. It's not a casting bubble. Byzantine coinage was always pretty rough, even fresh from the mint. Add years of daily use and abuse to that, and you end up with some very messy specimens. I have some with indications of a very storied history, which is actually my reason for owning them. Since very few coins in the thousand years of Byzantine history are particularly nice to look at, I will happily buy ones with interesting overstrikes, graffiti, and other damage. That said, your coin is quite nice compared to most, and I see no reason to doubt it.
I also see no reason to doubt the coin. Rather recently I posted a picture of my recent half follis (K instead of M and half the size) as part of my coin show purchases. The two look similar.
You're welcome. Man, I cannot tell you how much I envy you living in Iran, my favorite culture and coin source. What I would give to be able to live there and see the sites and collect the coins for a year or two. Here's to hoping our peoples will find peace and harmony in the future my friend. I take that back, I think our people are in harmony, so here's to hoping our governments can find a way to get along. Chris
