I have 6 Silver Certificates that are well worn but still pretty cool.
If you are interested in these notes..simply write why you would like to have them here in this thread and what you will do with them. The most well written reason will be determined by my son and awarded the notes.

You must reside in the USA and you must post by this Saturday...

    Good luck

Nice gesture, Rickie! I'd keep the star for myself, and give the others to my 10 year old nephew. He didn't know his grandfather, but I passed Pops cent collection to him and he was thrilled by it. It really opened his eyes to coin collecting, and he is becoming rabid about it. his mother complains he spends too much time with the coins and not enough on homework, but both are learning a little history from it. The notes might open his eyes to paper currency, too. And anything I collect will eventually be his, too.

Well, to put it simply, I'm running out of the stack of these that I give out to young numismatists and boy scouts when I run programs.

I appreciate silver certificates because they represent a time when money actually had value, instead of the deflated currency of today. When silver certificates were in print they stated “This certifies that there is on deposit in the treasury of the United States of America one dollar in silver payable to the bearer on demand”. Now that the Federal Reserve controls the currency and there is no gold standard in place, the American dollar is being horribly deflated more and more by the day. The silver certificate represents the golden age, or rather the silver age, of the American dollar bill, when for every paper bill printed, the Government had to back that bill with its value in silver.

I’m 28 years old, and when I use the term gold standard or silver certificate, most people my age have no idea what those things were. They only know what a Federal Reserve Note is and don’t know that at one time there was such a thing as a United State Note printed by the United States Government and not an independent central bank. I would add these certificates to the few I already have to display in my home and educate any visitors about the history of our own American dollar bill.

Whoops... there are 7 notes.. I mis-read one in the books and thought otherwise of it. Turns out to be a common run.
    So 7 notes total...
Well worn and need a TLC Home..

    Crobattt PEACE BRO xD

    My reason:

I would like the silver certificates to help jump start my currency collection. I currently only have around 5 or 6 FRN's and greatly would like more, but my mother and father working for the states government we're not making enough money to fully support me in currency collecting. I'm currently in high school and have a bad leg which limits me being able to work. The place i was going to work this summer was my grandparent's business, but my grandmother has been diagnosed more than one cancer, so she will be very sickly and i won't be able to work for her so i don't really have a way to support my currency funding. So any currency notes i would be more than happy to receive, and thanks for this chance ;d

I have a secret passageway in development in my room (my closet). If I won the note, I would put it in a plastic slip and use it to decorate the interior as I have been doing for awhile. The note will settle in nicely next to my Where's George note and Sphinx Cat Novelty note. =)

I would like to have these certificates because I currently am trying to start a US bills collection ( with little luck).
I'm only 13 and there is little work for 13 year olds in PC,Florida. I only get $5 in allowance a week, and as you know that
does'nt really fund a "nice" bill collection.
I think they represent an honest, hardworking era in U.S. history, and the set would be cherished.

Pick Me!! Thank you for this wonderful oppurtunity.

  12. As a teen, I have limited access to coins and bills. I wasn't exactly around when the silver certificates were issued, so as a collector, I've always had a disadvantage. I've only seen one in person once before, to be honest. I only own a handful of Morgans and a few silver dimes and quarters. I don't own many pieces that are pre-1964, aside from my wheat cents. Of course, I would keep them in a safe place should you select me. I have a younger cousin that I got interested in collecting coins, and I thought I would share them with him. Thanks for the contest, RickieB :D

I would like to win these coins because im doing a history project on coins of the US for extra credit, because i hav missed days for being sick when i was currently at home fighting mono.
Although others have better reasons then I. This is why it would be a good addition to my small but yet growing collection.

I would like to win even just one of these silver certificates because I am a fairy young collector who recently just got into bills and would like to add them to my small but growing collection. American history is amazing to me, and if those bills could speak Im sure they could tell one crazy story. Just holding history in your hand should excite anyone!

PS If I win ill buy you ice cream! (not with the prize lol)

I would love to win these notes because I really enjoy paper currency and I have learned a lot from Rickie. I have always really enjoyed silver certificates and have found several in circulation. I have yet to find a star note so my collection is lacking one. If I win these notes, I would only keep the star note for myself. The rest of the notes would be given to someone who would really appreciate them. I would probably consult with Rickie and find a good YN here at CT who would enjoy them. If I don't win, I understand. I have already benefited from Rickie's generosity in a previous currency contest and others should have the ability to do so too.
