Im lost ive never seen a morgan that is so beat up and with such reflective surfaces. Do you guys think this was a proof?dmpl,pl? That jus got circulated and obviously dipped? Or any other ideas?
Correct me if I am wrong, but I make a lot of my "cleaned or not cleaned" decisions based on the luster. If it is obviously worn, but shiny, and has no cartwheel luster, it's cleaned. If it is worn, but dull and maybe even tarnished, it is most likely uncleaned. This one does look cleaned or polished.
I am not sure it was dipped, but it was polished with jeweler's rouge polish, and remnants are in the devices on both sides. IMO. Jim
Is that what it is because its a red color i thought it was some type of paint. Could u polish a morgan to have a mirrorlike surface because u shouls see how lilight reflects off it. Its like light off a mirror?
The red material is a polishing compound like tripoli or rouge. I use them all the time polishing dental crowns.
At first it looked to me like it was a PL coin, but then I saw that it also had those proof qualities on the actual obverse bust which PL coins typically do not have. I vote polished. -Brian
