    Quarters

I was in my Credit Union yesterday signing some paperwork. I happened to ask if they had any rolls of halves. They didn't.

While I was waiting for my paperwork to be processed, an elderly gentleman, probably 80 years old, comes into the branch asking if he can deposit a large amount of coins. The teller asked if he had the coins with him and he said they were in the car since they were too heavy to carry.

A few minutes later, he brings in a large box of home-rolled quarters. My paperwork was done and I left the branch. About 1/2 mile away, I turned back, went into the branch, and asked if I could buy all of the quarters the 80 year old man just deposited. They were very happy to accommodate.

I thought this would be a good thing... older person, home-rolled, small credit union. I had expectations of silver!

I took all $400 of the quarters home with me, unwrapped them, and I found NOTHING! Earliest was a 1965 quarter, and I did even find anything to fill out my state quarter collection with.

Now I need to either re-wrap $400 worth of quarters for my bank, or drive an hour each way to use a free coin machine, or pay the ridiculous Coinstar fee. I'm not sure that I'm cut out for Roll Searching. You get funny looks when you ask for them, and frustrated looks when you turn them back in.

Oh well... Maybe I'll try more rolls from a different bank tomorrow.

Box of dimes, 2 silvers and one 1/2 new penny? Whatever...

2 seems to be my new average for silver dimes, over half a dime under last year. Stupid silver prices going way up... Then again, I haven't hit any big hoards this year, so...

Don't panic yet. If it wasn't for such a hot run up for Silver the past few weeks, you would notice a traditional dip before the last Thursday every month. In simplistic terms this dip allows for margin calls and silver future contracts coverage while keeping otherwise opportunistic people at bay.

Does this count as a roll searching score? I dumped my dimes and when I got the money for them, I got this:

Good. I'm going to a coin show this weekend. It would be nice to get some stuff for a little less than what I've been paying lately. It can go back up on Monday :)

Silver went from 32 to 27 a few months back... Look where it is now.

That's all I have to say. My sell points are $40/$55... may adjust depending on how the market is fluctuating.

It's a star note. And your coin is the Susan B. Anthony dollar I believe. I collect those. What year did you get?

So I picked up 2 boxes of cents over the weekend, my first in a while. Both were really crappy, 7 wheats in 1, 6 in the other, nothing older than a '46. 7 canadians total, also 1 bermuda cent. Was thinking of not doing cents anymore, and then about 7 rolls to go, pulled a 1899 Indian Head, my second ever. Its really exciting seeing that wreath on the back. I'll probably be getting another box now, lol.

    MAJOR HAUL!!!

So I got the $20 star note this morning and another box of dimes. I found 3 silvers in the box: 46, 59, and 64. Then this afternoon I got 20 rolls of halves. That's it, just 20 rolls. I got a 66, 2 68s, a 69 and and 64! Out of just 20 rolls! I swear, I'm going back tomorrow and cleaning her out of whatever stash she got these from. This is the best haul I've had since I started roll searching.
