Has anyone else noticed that since eBay started basing final sales fees on your sale price plus the shipping price, shipping rates being listed seem to have dramatically increased? Wasn't it supposed to work the opposite way? I was just looking at a bunch of British coins from U.S. sellers, and most were charging between $3.99 and $8.20 (seriously) for shipping one lousy coin that is probably worth 10 cents. Many have "economy" shipping listed as the shipping style, so I figure either something is wrong with the calculator or "economy" is a huge joke.

eBay is going to take fees from shipping charges also, it really shame.
I am selling on eBay last 12 years and make fair business.
As result of this auction of eBay will be ascension of shipping charges.

I have always said. BUy from sellers who have free shipping first

While not 100% fool proof, it is my experience that sellers who have free shipping are more customer oriented, who have done their "homework" so to speak, who will go that extra mile when needed.

Free shipping is a good indication of a seller that you can be assured that you will never ever have any issues.

I am not saying that sellers who charge separately are to be avoided or that you will have issues with.... it's a philosophical big picture thing. NO OFFENSE TO THOSE WHO CHARGE SHIPPING

It is only natural that they increase. For example if you need $2 to ship and now ebay takes part of it - then you pass the increase onto the consumer. It is just like anything else. It would be easier if ebay just went to one cost on an auction - cost including shipping. When I cost an item to bid - ebay or anywhere I include shipping and bid appropriately. I also include shipping when tracking an item in my inventory.

It's right, just finally the buyers are going to pay more money.
The seller will not sell the item less than he bought it and will not ship the item for free.
eBay all the time increases the fees, it's just one of the tricks to increase the fees.

It would be nice if eBay would show the shipping fee in the main search page like it does with free shipping so I would know not to waste my time by clicking on an item. It seems like all I do is click on something with a 99 cent starting bid, see that shipping is $5, and hit that back button. There is no way to justify a fee like that.

And I agree that free shipping is best, but when you are looking for cheaper items you are unlikely to see that, which makes sense. When I'm looking for the few missing dates to complete my collection, I'm hoping to spend maybe $1.50-$2 total per item, which is still way more than they're worth but basically I'm paying for convenience. Five dollar shipping just makes the purchase totally untenable. And these people aren't getting any bids on their items, so how is it helping them any?

Fees are high and the cost of shipping materials are not cheap. Just factor it into your bids. Wait till you buy something at a real auction and have to pay the 15 percent juice then you can cry all day.

Some of it also has to do with PayPal and the eBay Buyer Protection Plan. Before they started colecting on shipping charges they first made sure the sellers "had the fear put into them" about what's necessary to NOT loose a protection claim. ARghhh....S&H to Canada is now often in the $29.99 area - priority Post "special International Rate." Special for WHO!@#$??

Now I have to page through page after page to find someone who Might send up the $5-$25 coin I Might win for first class postage ($5 or less)!!

How do y'u play taps for my eBay buying days..... :headbang:

Im pretty sure as long as your package has delivery confirmation then you are.covered from a sellers perspective. This however does zilch for the buyer unless the package is insured.

Actually, there's no responsibility for the buyer until the package is delivered. Until then all responsibility lies in the seller making delivery. Hence the problem. Sellers must both insure and get delivery confirmation on what they dispatch. Seems that there are buyers trying to scam the seller by claiming non delivery. The number of sellers quoting "tracking" numbers has increased (almost half of the latest batch of purchases. Problem is that none of the numbers given seem to provide any tracking. I suspect the sellers are using receipts that show they turned the package over to the postal system. Unfortunately for them, that isn't proof of delivery to the buyer.

NOW....how about a seller who ships an empty package and has a signed deliver receipt from the buyer.....for the empty package. <SIGH>

I know it's beating a dead horse but it just gets so annoying when I am trying to buy coins on a budget and I see everyone trying to charge these outrageous shipping fees. If you're buying a $200 coin you may want all of that extra protection, but when it's a 1995 British penny, shipping in a regular envelope at the cost of a stamp is the way I want it to go. I know you don't have to buy from those sellers, but it is just frustrating since so few sellers offer cheap shipping. I sell coins I have doubles of an I charge 75 cents for the first and 25 cents for additional coins. It covers the stamp and some of the eBay and Paypal fees. I'm not padding my profits by jacking up shipping costs, and I wish more people would do the same.

Click on "Customize view" at the upper right-hand corner of the search results listing, then check the "Show shipping cost" checkbox.

Good point. My last winning purchase from Lynn Knight was a note for $250. By the time the "Buyers Premium" and shipping & handling were added to the invoice, the note was $315. I'm not a seller, but from a buyers perspective, eBay is a bargain.

what I noticed was that before ebay cracked down on excessive shipping charges more than they do now. Why? Sellers were reducing their ebay fees by overcharging on shipping. But now that they get a cut of excessive shipping they don't give a dam. I have reported several auctions that were clearly excessive shipping, like $27 to ship 4 quarters, and not even priority mail! I chatted with an ebay rep and I couldn't even get him to agree that $27 to ship 4 quarters was excessive! All he kept saying was that buyers need to read the whole auction before they bid on anything. So in otherwords, ebay no longer cares if there is excessive shipping since they get a piece and if someone does bid without seeing the excessive shipping, which I am sure happens a lot otherwise they wouldn't do it, they are going to look the other way.

I think you will find most any auction expensive with buyers premium and other charges but
I think places like e-bay offers a bit of a discount but most of the best stuff isnt there
    Atleast from my experience.
