...I had absolutely no idea that any Liberty Seated Dollar were included in the coins of the GSA Hoard?! I was just browsing around Ebay and stumbled upon this. Obviously, judging by the ridiculously high bids, the GSA didn't have too many of these Liberty Seated Dollars to release to begin with. Please take the time to read the listing's description, written by the seller himself, for more insight on the story behind this intriguing, possibly one-of-a-kind coin.

    Hope You Enjoy,

My VAM book is not with me. I'll look up the GSA numbers when I get home. Nice coin. :)

I've heard others talk about them, and I've only seen photos once before. I think it was on the NGC forums. Who knows! It may have been this same coin, but I really can't remember. In any event, this seller seems to have documented the provenance well in his listing, and it has made for a very interesting read. Thanks for posting it!

This coin was in the GSAGUY collection. There is a giveaway surrounding this auction ATS.

Seated dollars in soft packs are super scarce... I think the price is a little on the high side but I wish the seller luck with the auction because this is really a scarce coin in that holder.

Page 399 of the VAM book shows the break down of the coins by year and how they were sold in Table 9.1. Also, in the verbage below the table, it says "Some 84,000 mixed circulated coins were for sale. They consisted of many different dates from all mints. Their condition was mostly VF to AU with a few remved by the GSA." The mixed circulated coins were listed for sale at $3 each and sold at the June-July 1973 sale.

Didn't see it mention any Liberty Seated Dollars.

Reading the story and seeing the evidence presented, I'm inclined to believe it. For me, it is a bit too high though. Nice find! :)

This coin has been fairly well known in the GSA collecting field and as far as has been confirmed it is the ONLY seated dollar that was in the GSA sale. (Sold by them for $3.00 as a mixed circulated.)

Given the documentation with the coin
Don't you just love it when the Mint messes up

The mint didn't mess anything up. The GSA screwed something up. Lost an opportunity to make a lot more than $3, lol.

That's true, that coin was worth about $40 then. :)

Not sure it was a screw up at all. The GSA was in charge of selling the silver dollars found during the 1964 Treasury audit. Most turned out to be Morgan Dollars from the Carson City mint, but there were also Morgans from other mints; as well as Peace Dollars that have been accounted for. I think this lonely Seated Liberty Dollar just happen to be within one of the mint bags containing circualted Dollars found during the audit. (as an example, I think its akin to finding a V nickel in a current roll today)

Nevertheless, it is a very rare piece of GSA Dollar Sale history!
