    I'm thinking someone feels it's a + or a 67.

I do not think it will make 67, but I also believe it is a lot closer than you think. There is also a + grade stuck in the middle. It goes for just a bit more (per PCGS) than was paid for this coin. BTW, since 2007, Heritage has sold 10 MS66's for $400+.

Could be a noob bought it. Could be someone thought it was an upgrade. Could be someone simply liked it. Who knows.

Beginning in 1946 and through the late 1950's, the number of MS66RD Philadelphia Lincoln wheaties graded MS66 drops dramatically. While before 1946 there were thousands graded MS66RD by PCGS, at that point the number drop by a factor of four or more.

So a PCGS 1946 66RD Lincoln is harder to come by than you think. Only several hundred exist, and they commonly go for more than price guide because of the collector demand. Few folks can afford one of the seven MS67RD's that exist. So if you play the registry game or enjoy building a high-grade set, the 66RD '46P is essential.

After looking for a long while for a nice one, a few years ago I paid more than $400 for one. The price guides are simply off for this coin.
