Help me guys. I have an ms64 morgan dollar in a little 2x2 flip. The plastic on thenflip got torn off so now the obverse is exposed to air and dust and dirt. What should i do while i wait to get a new holder
Um I'd go to the nearest hobby shop and get another 2x2 in the mean time.. You planning on slabbing this coin?
I dont have any shops in my atea thatvsell coin supplies. And most likely not because it is only worth a few bucks more than melt and is not rare or valuable. But its special to me so i dont want it getting messed up
I've had very good results with Wizard Coin Supply. I would suggest an Air-Tite capsule rather than a 2x2. I believe the 38mm size should do it. I've heard good things about Kointain capsules, also.
I just ordered some stuff form them today. Really easy to deal with and the last order I got within a week.. (did the flat rate shipping)
Just a tip: http://www.jpscorner.com/ has Airtites cheaper, and the price doesn't increase with the size of the holder like Wizard. :thumb: Shipping is also awesome. All of my orders were shipped next day. My latest order took 3 days without any special shipping.
I have good luck with coinsupplyexpress.com The prices are good, shipping is what it is costwise, but always has been initiated next day. I do my large orders from them.
Take a deep breath, or two, have a cup of coffee, preferably decaf, relax, nothing will happen to the coin in the short amount of time it will take for you to order some 2x2s or airtites for it.
Your coin has been around for more than 100 years. It was probably stored in a bag with 999 others for about 60 years, and has probably only been in a 2x2 for the last couple decades. That means it was "out gallivanting" for 20 years or so. I don't think a few days will make any difference. Chris
About the only protection you get from a 2x2 is to keep your finger oils off the coin. Take any silver coin in a 2x2 and put it in a drawer with a book of matches and see what happens.
Do you guys know how to tell if a plastic coin flip has pvc in it? I have a rubbery plasticy flip that i can put it in temporarily but will that cause damage
If the flip has a rubbery feel to it, it likely contains PVC (I wouldn't use it). I wouldn't put it in a cotton ball bag or sock for fear of hairline scratches. If I was worried about it, I would gently wrap it in aluminum foil. Aluminum intercepts much of the bad reactants before they reach the coin.
I like those air-tites but what size is used for capped bust halves? Are they a good holder as I'm a little concerned with the foam spacers. I had 3 standing liberty quarters blackened by similar material in the past.
