Since it seems to upset the collectors, I will not post any more thoughts about gold and silver coins as an investment. This happens to be the main reason why I purchased the coins to begin with, but I recognize this is primarily a forum for collectors, who were here first and who make this place possible. Sorry if I offended anybody.

Now that was interesting, I have to say I dont realy see what the fuss is all about though it is not as though silver has dissapeared LOL it is still there all that will happen is it will cost a bit more to get out of the ground, which the company will pass on to us so we will have to pay more for our silver coins  OH My God QuickBuy Silver :D :D

What does this have to do with US coins? Should I start posting willy nilley on the price of hogs. I don't see where it says this is an investors forum. Investors forums are nothing more than an endless stream of spam driven by the relentless profit motivation of salesreps. Is this what you want from CoinTalk?

CS misstated the objections completely on previous threads. The objection wasn't a discussion on investing in Coins, which is something we talk about ALL the time. It was an objection to glib spam about Silver futures which include blatent fishing tackets by traders with statements like , "I'm already on record as saying Silver should go up 20 times its current value after the third quarter of 2006".

I am sure that you can agree that this is FISHING and a violation of the forums trust, if not its object guildlines.

In fact, this thread is nothing more than a continuation of this thread:

    http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=13434

which was already rightfuly locked up by moderators because of the stated and sane reasoning given at that time. The discussion vered completely from the topic of coins. This is an end run around the moderators. There is no reason why a conversation about coin values, and even investments in coins can not continue as it always had without the invasion of the forum by fishing and a 24/7 precious medals watch.

If they want to discuss it so much, let it be moved to the area where other off-topic conversations take place such as the religion and politics section where they discuss the water supply of their homes and such other offtopic related conversations.

Ruben I do believe that if the price of raw silver rises then the cost will end up been passed on to collectors of modern silver commems (Of whom I am one) so this story has a importance to collecters US and otherrs. Your comparison is realy not on what have hogs to do with coins LOL other than having to use coins to purchase said hogs :)

The market for silver is only tangental to coins collecting at best. If you want to discuss the markets for silver within that narrow window, I doubt anyone would have a problem.

Silver prices are a very active (of late) dynamic part of the hobby, and many of like that part of the hobby why is that bad?

Because it is OFF TOPIC and it ticks people off to run into a thread and be pitched to. The overt commercialization of the forum is spitiually a violation of the goal of its rules.

This is marketing jaargon that has no place on this list. This is not a forum on silver investment and your investment advice is UNWELCOME. This is not a list to sell commodities, oil, or stocks. This is a list about COINS. If your not discussing COINS (silver or otherwise), take it somewhere else. Even if you were selling coins you would be relegated to the auctions section.

Which part of this was misunderstood and I'll rephrase it in more vulgar language that perhaps you can better understand. Every tangental discussion on the rising silver prices and its affects on coin value is not to be turned into you own personal investment seminar on bullion futures.

I really doubt if anyone here is profitting by selling silver futures to other members and the silver market is huge so we can not manipulate it. If I were pushing penny stocks that would be uncool but talking about silver is very in keeping with the spirit of a spirited coin dicussion. That being said I did not mean to offend you, that is why I put a disclaimer in the 1st post.

I think you are reading it in not the same way I said it....
When I think of a forum its a place to learn....if that is for a Collector or a Invester or a non investers or non collectors---this story talks about Silver and the mining of it....IMO since coins are made out of Silver it would go somewhat in hand.

I'm sorry if that is not the way you see it....

I am not tick off, I found the article interesting, but rude and obnoxious posting sure do.

Its not a matter of offense, its a matter of spam. I would love to participate in a thread about silver and coins, but every thread on that topic has melted down to marketing jaargon and spam meaning you have to walk through reams of spam to read anything interesting about silver and its impact on coins, or the silver coin market. There is no reason for this. It didn't take more that 8 messages in the other thread for the discussing to melt down completely to utter marketing claptrap and blatant fishing.

Unless someone is asking you which silver COINS that you might invest in considering the rising silver market, then keep your investment adivse to yourself. I especially find it upseting to read what your on "record" with, what your 'puts' are for the coming month, your hedging the market, sales of silver mine stocks, and anything pointing me to the "greatest investment oppurtunities of our lifetime", all of which way way way way out of bounds and all of which has been posted on silver market threads in the past.

This is not a hard concept to capture. I'm 100% certain you understand exactly what kind of messages have become bothersome and why the direction of these threads and the reaction to them is such as they are.

Even though I think Ruben is overreacting, running around the room screaming and waving his arms with his hair on fire over a minor offense, I recognize this is just the typical way Brooklyn people engage each other when there is a difference of opinion, and intend to try to abide by the spirit of his request [which has merit] to focus future discussions about silver on the impact on numismatics.

This has become a cointalk tradition. If all else fails, blame Brooklyn or the 5 boroughs. You might think my reaction is over the top but remember these two threads?

    http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=9423&highlight=Silver

They both quickly spun out of control and went on FOREVER. When they finally died, I was like, "Thank God", we can finally get back to talking about coins without the spam.

This time I want to interject. If you want to have a conversation that focuses primarly on the price of precious metals and future investings, by all means, take it out of the US Coins forum.
