    Hi everyone,

I have a grading question for you. What do you think this 1859 IHC would grade from PCGS/ANA? You cannot tell from the pictures, but there is quite a bit of luster remaining on the obverse, and a little remaining on the reverse. I included a closeup scan of the date as well. Is this a possible RPD, or just machine doubling? The reason I ask is I don't see as much doubling anywhere else on the coin.

Lastly, any idea on the value?

    Thanks for your help,

    RR

MS-67 BN in my opinion. Except for some bag marks on on the obverse there's virtually no wear. Full eyebrows, four distinct diamonds on the headress strap below the chin, sharp feather tips, untouched beads. Looks like machine doubling on the feather edges. This won't help or hurt. The reverse : the bow is just a very wee smooth otherwise no other wear.
I'd love to see the luster and true color of this IHC. ZEKE

    Thanks Zeke,

I found an old timer selling off his collection. I basically bought every indian head he had. This was one of many uncirculated IHCs he had. I bought this coin well under ms60 pricing and wish I had a camera that would show you the true luster. If it grades MS67 (there will be no RD, RB, BN designation due to CN cent) I am sitting on a coin worth about $10,000.

    Any suggestions on grading service?

Ngc or Pcgs but you got to be 99% sure it not dipped or cleaned.

The reverse has a little bit of what looks like pvc spotting, and a looong scratch that goes across the wreath and through the last two letters of ONE. My gut says it has been gently cleaned, and that scratch will keep if from holdering. Regardless it is a very handsome coin IMO.

I see an MS-64 coin with a nasty scratch, 10,000 I don't think so, not even close...

    I think that's Longacre doubling.

I'd grade it MS63-MS64 BN, if it doesn't go genuine.

An MS67 Indian 1c should show unbelievable booming luster visible from space.

Yeah, you'll never see a BN MS67... think the highest BN coin ever graded by PCGS was a 66...

Unfortunately that scratch starts at the edge of the right rim and goes all the way to the dentals on the left side. It may be from a staple in a 2x2. That will stop it from a high MS grade. Still a great coin overall.

Thanks!! By the way, I was no way implying I had a $10,000 coin here......I never thought it was close to MS67. That scratch really sucks and I do agree that it will really hamper any grade if sent off. Still think I got a great deal. Ill try to post some more pics of other coins I bought from this guy. Many are red or red/brown (1860CN, 1862CN 1880,1881,1883,1887,1890,1896,1897,1898,1901,1905,1909,1909 vdb lincoln) and I don't want to take out and place on my scanner. My scanner really does a horrible job showing luster and shine anyways. Also picked up 1868 EF, 1869 EF, 1870 EF Details,1871 VF, 1877 FR/AG. Paid $700 for the whole lot. Not bad in my mind.

Nice coin RedRaider. I can't wait to see the rest of the collection. I think you did real well.

here are some of the others. I am hesitant to scan the ones with luster until I can properly handle them. the 1877 is nothing to brag about, but I am fairly certain it is real. The guy had another one that he was not selling. probably ef/au as it had 3+diamonds.

Nice batch of IHC's. The 1859 I would say MS detail, looks like a weak strike on the reverse.
