I was curious what everyone's favorite fractional note is. I have just started collecting fractionals and since I love history I really have not come across a favorite yet. I have like 6 now but if I had to pick would be my 1863 .10 Washington ( hope I got teh date right!)
I only have some of the last issue since that was all I could afford one weekend while note shopping. I got an UNC for around $25. Those are always able to be found and have more of a chance of being in unc or better condition.
That's what I have found too, I am able to get them at good prices in great condition! Guess Fracional's just are not as popular as other notes. I think they are unique and interesting myself.
I enjoy them a bunch, just don't have too many of them. When you get into the later issues, they are more common to find and generally in better condition due to the amount of them that were printed compared to the 1st and second issues. If you can find early ones in great condition, I suggest jumping on them. The only ones I've found outside of ebay have major problems and aren't worth me even negotiating over.
When I collected them.. my favorite was the entire 4th Issue with particular attention to deep blue stained 50 cent Stanton notes. RickieB
a favorite of mine would have to be from the 3rd issue 25 Cents (William P. Fessenden, Secretary of the Treasurer Under the Lincoln administration) this is one of the more rarer Fractionals running away with a couple varieties Commanding over $4,000 !!
I have about 36 of all the series. If you live in the North, you have a better chance of finding nice ones at reasonable prices. Down South they are way too expensive. -O)
Personally I like them all. Right now I have 6 so far so I have a long way to go to "hopefully" collecting them all. I never heard of them before I got into the hobby and you should have seen my kids faces when I showed them the notes. I so enjoyed the history lesson they got that day. That's why I love the hobby.
Gees Guys So here we go. My favourite fractional. I actually have a few fractionals, but this one is unique in the series for the denomination: The reason given for the creation of this note was that it could be used to purchase five first class stamps.
I just have to show you mine. I just wish the lower right corner of the 5 cent note wasn't cut into. I just don't know what it might grade, maybe 45. The 10 cent has much more of a chance to reach 62 or 63, I hope. zeke
I have one each of all the various type issues, not the variations within each type. Being from Illinois, I have been conditioned into believing in the Lincoln issue. I now have switched to looking for the specimens. I plan to attend the Chicago Money Show this Friday, April 29th, to continue my search. I have a fair amount of Confederate Fractional's as well.
Dr Kegg and saltysam-1 Yes please post some or as many as you can. I would really like to see them. Please, anybody, comment on my two. I need the criticism good, bad, or ugly. I'll all help. zeke
zeke, Let me look at some of my material when I get home to give you a more informed response to your notes.
Zeke those are some really nice notes. I'll take some picts of mine this weekend. Most are not quite as nice but pretty decent I think.
