Some of you guys n gals go through tons and tons of coinage, and I am sure there have been some amazing finds! What are your personal favorites or best finds? S-VDB? 1914-D?

For me, it is just my (very few) silver finds. Quarters: 57, 61, 64x2 all D mint I believe, maybe a P but def no S mints. Halves: 1967 Philly. That is it for me from circulation. All of my other silver has either been a gift or I bought/traded.

Merc, I am sure you have some awesome finds.

AgentX, I know you have found some Barbers, that would blow me away.

Aggie, I know you have had some good luck at yardsales!

Bob! (I call you Big Bad Bob!) I know you have some sweet stuff too!

These are just the few people I can remember from the Roll Searchers thread. I know we have posted out results, but I hopped on the thread at about Page 600. So maybe better stuff has been found since or before then?

I am so excited by all of this coin stuff I just can't bottle it in anymore! My wife thinks I am nuts, but loves me still =P Also, I am trading some work for a Walking Liberty Half. My boss says "Work a couple hours for me, and I'll send one your way." He'll find me a decent one too. This is going to be my first Walking Liberty. Such a beautiful coin!

    I_Love_Silver I love U.S. coinage

I usually find silver "war nickels" and just recently got a 1909 V nickel in change at the cigarette shoppe. mostly shellcase pennies though.

  4. Hm, good question. I found a 1909 cent and 1984-S Proof cent in boxes

Mine is a 1983 Kennedy Half Dollar that looks to have been shot point blank with a shot gun on both the obverse and reverse. :sniper:...Sorry, no photos.

I have almost a complete tube of '69-'74-S Lincolns. I don't know why but I really like the S on any coin, but the I found all of those cents. They aren't valuable , but they are more unusual, plus I found them early in my collecting so I was excited. Those are really my only finds since I don't roll search. My most recent though was a great looking 1956-D cent. I don't know if the toning is natural or not but it sure looks great! I have yet to get a good picture though.

point blank with a shotgun would put a huge hole in the coin. I think you mean "peppered" on both sides. :)

Ok, maybe not point blank, but the shot was fired no more than a foot away from the coin. It is easy to tell it was a very close shot due to the amount of the little balls that struck the coin (I forget what they are refered to as). It was like 5 or 6 indentations on the obverse (And they had to be through at least 1/3 of the coin) and 3 or 4 on the reverse. I wish I still had that coin. I am afraid I've misplaced it :(

at close range there would be a lot more then a half dozen dings it takes like 10 feet for the shot(the term for the BB's) to spread. I'm guessing that it was used as a target for a BB gun.

    After going through 700,000 plus quarters in 15 years I had 2 1972 D type B reverse.
I gave one away to a very deserving recipient.

I got 8 1909 VDB pennies from the register at work. No 1909S VDB though :(
Oh! And I found a 1921 Morgan in really good shape.

I see I got mentioned by name. I'll run down the list... Bear with me, this'll be a long post with some crappy pics, but eh...

    Cents - 3 '09 VDB's, the nicest of which is a solid F, low-end VF. 1922-D in AG was a great find too. 72 wheaties in a box was cool. But best single coin find was this;

1999 Wide AM, probably in 63-64 RD. $500 coin to the right buyer. Turned down an offer of $350 before.

Nickels -Hmm, I've found one V-Nickel, that was cool. I found 14 and 16 Buffalo Nickels in back-to-back boxes from one bank, all with full dates. By far my best find in terms of quantity. I've found nearly 100 war nickels, too, one time found 5 in one box, 4 in a couple... I pulled 8 out of a $200 bag I bought off a bank last week. Single best coin, though....

'31-S Buff. Probably about VF. Second lowest mintage in the series.

Dimes, oh dimes... I love searching dimes. I almost always find some silver. I've found numerous mini-hoards of dimes in boxes and whatnot. I've never found a full roll of silver, and I've probably never found anything worth a substantial amount over melt. So mostly, hoards. Two stand out, the second box I ever opened and a bag I bought at the same bank where I got the bag with 8 war nickels.

Not bad for my second box ever...

And the bag was fantastic. About $635 in there, IIRC, and I pulled 60 silver dimes out of it.

Quarters... Never had much love for them. I've pulled about 1 per $1k searched, and they were all Washington's, and none in very good shape. Suffice to say, I don't have anything to show ya there.

Halves... My best finds have actually been recently. About a month ago I picked up $3 loose from a bank, all clad. Asked if they had anything in the vault, they did. 4 solid rolls of 40% silver. Just Tuesday, I went to a local bank that has usually held some solid rolls (11 1964's in one roll was awesome) and picked up 2 rolls of 40% silver. All for face value. Best single find? 1916 walker in FR-AG.

It's on the side there. Just enough of the date left to see the bar of the 1 and then the full 6.

As for dollars, I've never found a Peace or Morgan, or Trade, Seated, anything like that. I have found three 1971 Type 2 Ikes, though. One that would grade AU that I sold, another that is AU, but damaged due to a scratch, and one I'd grade at MS63.

My best find from circulation came about 25 years ago. She was a sweetheart of a 21 year old Vietnamese woman, and every time she wanted to fool around, she'd call me Mr. Machuga in front of her family.

This is by far my favorite find, so rare to see one of these PL LMC's. On top of being PL, it has rainbow target toning....just an amazing coin in hand. When I opened the Brinks plastic roll and dumped it out this coin jumped out at me like no other in all my years.

I've stumbled across a few PL LMC's in my time. I'd say one every couple boxes... do any of the slabbers designate LMC's as PL yet?
