Does anyone know what this is? Note that the tails side of the coin is actually on its side, i.e., the number "1" is on the left side of the coin (sorry but I didn't notice this until I blew it up, and flipping the photo distorts it). Thanks for your input.
that is a 1 yuan coin from taiwan - i think that is worth about 3 cents face value. the date is 1981 if I did my math right - they start the dating in year 1 in 1911 and that is from year 70. as you noted, the reverse does need to be rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise -so the 1 is at the bottom - i have one of those and mine is medal flip
