I found it approximately 20 years ago digging around in a shed behind my grandma's house and I had put it up and forgotten about it until the other day. It's a Horseshoe Bend National Military Park coin and has Jackson and Manawa on the front and a battle scene on the back with march 27, 1814 on the back. I'm trying to upload a pic of the front and back but it isn't working right now. I'll try to host them and repost them in a little bit. Any help is appreciated. Sorry if I am in the wrong forum.
More than likely photos will be needed to identify your coin. Let us know when you are able to provide photos.
More than likely, it is a medal rather than a coin, but we will need some good photos to help you. Chris
Horseshoe bend was a military loss for the U.S. during the war of 1812. You can read about that battle, on March 27, 1814, http://www.nps.gov/hobe/historyculture/index.htm
You are right, it is a medal. I don't know what I was thinking with coin. I just had that stuck in my head for some reason. I appreciate it. I'll try to find info on some type of medal forum if i can't find anything on it.
Um......it had nothing to do with the War of 1812. It was the Creek War and it was not a defeat for Jackson but led to the eventual forced movement of all of the Indian tribes east of the Mississippi to Oklahoma on the forced march known as the "Trail of Tears". Chris
I didn't say it had anything to do with the War of 1812, only that it was during the War of 1812, and the military loss I misspoke on.
