    Hi everyone,

I got this morgan dollar from my grandma a little while ago. I am a complete idiot when it comes to grading coins, but it seems like compared to others I have seen it is in excellent condition. It has very few markings and it has a good shine. My only problem is that when I got the coin there was a ring type thing that was soldered around it (something like it could be made into a necklace. This ring on the outside is not soldered to the entire coin, however, it is soldered to itself so it can rotate around the coin. How much is this coin worth. I know it was made in Philly.

Hard to say but if that ring has actually done some damage to the coin or is glued/attached in any way then it will severely impact the price.

it seems to me that one would be able to get it off if they just broke the ring and the coin would not be damaged.

It is likely that an experienced coin collector would be able to notice the fact that the coin was former jewelery. That type of bezel leaves distinctive marks on the rim of the coin that are considered damage and they severely limit the value of the coin. If it is uncirculated then I expect that it would be worth about $15, but if it has any circulation evident then it will be worth about $10.
