The 1799 Bust Dollar is fake, as stated above, if it sticks to a magnet, which I think it will, its fake. The date is not right, too.

That's great. Shelley-If you only knew how much stuff I've posted here that was worthless you'd laugh! I've learned a lot here. You never know until you ask; you might have something really valuable on your hands. Thanks for taking the time to take those photos! Not bad shots at all.

100% fake. Silver Dollars did not have reeded edges in 1799. (They had lettered edges.)

The experience is not necessarily over, you really should let these guys see the other coins you have found. Just because one is counterfeit does not mean they all are. People do give fast to the point answers, which do seem blunt, but trust me, the knowledge available here to help with any questions, really is second to none.

My questions to help you would branch more from this opening statement. Like who packed away the box? Where was the box packed away? In some persons house? Where these coins came from and who they last belonged to could shed much light on the questions that you brought to us.

There is one thing you can't forget, while the Gold coin may be rarer (if legit) than the 1799 Bust, the 1799 Bust commands a price of atleast $800, even in the poorest grades, might even be $1000. Like the guy above me said, the other coins could be legit, you just never know. The Gold coin is good to be leary of, too, since they are HIGHLY counterfeited. The other coins stated in your post are counterfeited, but not as much as the Bust and the Gold coin.

  9. This is what is interesting to me. I got the impression from the OP that these coins were packed away for years in an old box and only recently unearthed. I agree that the coin posted is a fake. Perhaps the others are not fake or perhaps the box is not that old. IMO worth investigating further. TC

It could still be very old. Counterfeiting collectible coins is by no means a new thing.

I would send your coins to PCGS or NGC. Then you will know if they are real and you will also know the grade. That why you will not get ripped off when you go to sell them.

That would be a waste of money this early in the game.

Oh. and when you find coins that are sitting around, old, not "new".... DO NOT CLEAN THEM.

Shelley, unfortunately not being able to provide us with some digital photos of your coins is your disadvantage. If you can tell us where you reside, perhaps some of us can point you toward a dealer who we know is worthy of a referral. Get an appraisal and don't agree to sell anything until you can provide photo's.
