After several years of upgrading my albums,I find myself with a lot of rolls in tubes of all the excess coins.I have lots of Mercury dimes from 1916 on,tons of Jeffersons 1939-1950's with about a dozen wartime silvers,30-40 buffalos most with dates and a zillion lincolns from 1911 on,including some BU's.
My question is,what would you do with them? Keep, sell, ebay, dealer?? I need advice!:)

A lot of your wheat-backs look pretty shiny! Nice coins! I'd do as the others suggest and post what you've got on the Sale board...or just keep 'em for posterity. ;)

Actually it appears that a few of them have been cleaned.

I'd keep them. They'd be nice to show to kids, grandkids....
Or, if it's all about the Benjamins, keep them and watch the prices [voice pitch rising] go up and up...

OK,looks like I've started something so when I get a chance,I'll go through the dimes and better cents and post a list on the board. Some of the cents seem to have been cleaned (which is why they are no longer in my collection) so I won't bother with those, only the BU's and better dates. If I do sell, they will be dirt cheap since I'm not in it to make a lot of money.Stay tuned.

Get yourself a blowtorch and lay out all the duplicates into some kind of design and torch them all together. This will be a fantastic art work display for your front lawn and will be heavy enough not to be easily stolen. You may have to coat the mess with some outdoor clear paint but that shouldn't ruin the coins to much.

Now for real. I too have over the years been in that situation. However, I just kept on buying Whitman Classic Albums and starting over with the next set of duplicates. For example I am now up to 3 sets of Indian Cents, 10 sets of Lincolns, 2 sets of Liberty Head Nickels, 5 sets of Buffalo Nickels and on and on and on. I recently gave away the 11th set of Lincolns but may start again. Then as I acquired additional coins, if great, they go into set 1, from 1 to 2, 2 to 3, etc. This makes set 1 the best and the last set not so good. Then comes what to do with the ones after that.
Next I did what you did. I bought tons of plastic rolls and started to put the excess in them. Then I said to myself I don't know what I've got in there so I invested in thousands of 2x2" cardboard holders and purchased red boxes at a coin show that holds hundreds of them. Each duplicate coin has been slowly put into a 2x2 and labled as to name, date, mint mark. Now I'm up to about almost ten boxes of them.
I noticed that at coin shows there are lots of people that sell coins just that way. They just lay out those red boxes and say help yourself. All coins in boxes 1,2,3, are for $0.50. All coins in boxes 4,5,6 are for ------ and I may end up doing that next.
I've thought about doing the posting on this and other board stuff but I'm not much into the running to the post office thing, sending stuff out registered or certified mail.
Maybe the making of an art object with them is a thing to do after all.

I've been looking for BU wheats for my type set yet to find one that apeals to me, I guess that the bad part of becoming a recent collector.

Of course I discussed this with my therapist. He was the one that showed me his statues made with coins in his back yard. We were going to make a car out of them but didn't know where to put the VIN number. So it's just back to collecting.
I had well over 25 giveaways on the PCGS forum just to get rid of way to much stuff. I stopped because the postage went up.

    Obsession!

    Haha.

How can anyone be a coin collector and not be a little bit obsessive? I think that's the thing that draws you into this hobby to begin with. I don't think that's true for coin investors, but for collectors it is.

I envy you guys that have this many spare coins. I am only just starting my collection and only have a few mercs. I have two indian head cents and I was very excited when I first saw them.

Someday if I keep this up I'll have a huge hoard of excess silver and copper but that day is a long way off. :)

    markkawika,
I've only been collecting since January 2002 and I've already accumulated this much extra so maybe it's not that far off for you.:smile
