Just happened to be passing through Littleton, NH last week. Littleton Coin is only a couple of miles off the main road, so I stopped by. Very nice building. I wanted to see what their coin shop looked like. I was disappointed. They only have a limited number of coins in the shop. Don't get me wrong. They were very friendly. You have to tell them what you are looking for (type, date, mint, grade). They check the inventory, have someone pull out a few coins from outside the store, paperwork is generated, they sign the coins over from inventory and into the store, you look, and then repeat. I wanted to cherrypick some VAMs! It wasn't going to happen. The circulated coins were sealed in little plastic bags with a barcode that covered one side of the coin. Couldn't even see the whole coin. The prices were high. Common date Morgans in F-VF for $30+. Has anyone ever gone there? If I had more time, I would have taken the tour. The place looked interesting.
Surprized you didn't read all the stuff posted here about that place. From waht everyone says I'm amazed they didn't approach you with a gun and force you to buy a coin. The way they charge for coins and merchandise that tactic would suit them.
Oh I've read it all. That's one of the reasons that I'm not in their "club". Some VAMs are worth 100x common value. I wouldn't mind paying 3x a true price to score a nice variety. With thousands of Morgans in the building, I was hoping to look through a giant tub of coins!
Two things to remember about Littleton Coins 1. They're primarily a mail order place, the "shop" probably does less than 1% of their total business....so not much effort is put into it. 2. Littleton Coins is located in Littleton, NH population: 362 kissing cousins, 1023 mouse, and a billion squirels. Again, not much foot traffic to support a coin shop, so not much effort put into it. edit: OK...OK...so Littleton is not popluated by 362 kissing cousins......its 6116 (as of 2004 census)
