This cent has an odd rim on it... but a partial complete rim on top... any ideas?

Looks like a cud, when a small part of the die breaks off, but on a coin in that shape, it could be damage or worthless. Does the top rim of the coin have a wedge in it, on the outside rim, coressponding to that point?

the edge shows no damage... the thing in question looks like the original rim where everything else looks like the rim was removed

If I had to guess, I'd say it was likely an encased coin at one time.

Looks like it was used in jewelry maybe? I recall seing a cent taken out of one of them rings a long time ago and the damage was similiar to what is shown here.

Yes, this is (or was) an encased cent. The pushed-in rim is characteristic.
