Hello, I am new to this site and I am not a collector. I found this site looking for some info on a quater and was hoping for any help. I have a 2000 South Carolina state quarter it is off set 1/8 on both sides. Front of quarter: the bottom to right of the quarter makes a moon shape, pushes the 1/8 off to where it cut off the United States Of. The back: the top to right makes a moon shape, pushes the 1/8 off to where everything below the 2000 date is cut off. The outter rim is completely smooth, no ridges. I think it is in good condition, there is no dings, bangs, or real damage. I am trying to take a few good pics of the quarter to help you out better, unfortunately, I am not getting a clear pictures...I will keep trying. Thank you for all your help!
A Quater? Not sure about that. But with quarters, on the other hand, it justs sounds like an off-center strike (not sure about the proper term). It should command a small premium, if it's just a little off center.
If I'm not mistaken I think the deviation has to be a certain percentage off for the premiums to kick in.
Well, yes, you're right. I'm assuming that by the description, it sounds pretty noticeable, but that's why I said small premium. I've found lots of cents from the 1970s that are struck slightly off center, but I just throw them in my copper jar, since they aren't worth more than melt.
Nice find, ETCM has the SC state quarter as follows; Off Center- 5%- 20% = $135 Off Center- 25%- 75% = $250 These are just reference prices not actual value. Actual value will be what someone is willing to pay...
Okiegirl, here is some completed auctions from ebay http://completed.shop.ebay.com/Erro...rlolina&_rusck=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m283&_rdc=1
Thanks I looked at ebay and didn't find anything on coins yesterday, I'm sure it was my search. Those SC didn't look as far off. What is the best way to get good pics of them with out them shining and blurring the pic? I thought (unless someone really wants it) I'd put it in the drawer with all the other neat looking coins I've come across.
Generally off center coins don't have a very large premium but the states coins had very few errors since they tightened up production standards and now get most of their errors returned for destruction by the counting houses. The combination of very few coins and significant demand causes the much larger premiums. The SC seemed especially prone to this type of error and especially misaligned strikes where only one die is out of line rather than the coin being in the wrong place.
I also have south carolina quarter with the "united states of" smudged out....any ideas if worth anything?
You have to post pics dude. Without pics, there's no way to tell whether its struck through grease, another error, or just PMD (which is often the case).
picture of the quarter Hi again, uploaded a pic, hope it'c clear enough....and I am a dudette, not a dude ...let me know what you think..
Ewwww A GIRL. (j/k) Welcome to CT What it looks to be is 2 things, 1st Misaligned die and struck through heavy grease.
Ha Ha I could say the same about boys ya know....but anyway...what should i do with quarter, hang on to it....maybe someday it will be worth something?
