Hi all , i found this one in some change today, i cant tell if its a double die date or not, it looks to be one, but i cant find any info of any being found or graded to compare it to. Im sorry the pictures arent the best. I will try to take better ones. Any Help would be great. Frank
Not a doubled die. "Plating Split doubling"....common on zinc cents. Not an error. Here's a pretty good site with the different types of collectible and non-collectible doubling: http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/OtherFormsOfDoubling.htm
Frank I don't think you coin is a doubled die. This coin was made from a worn out die or some kind if a die problem. the coins from about 87 up to around 94 a lot of them have this type problem. I have some that I found and kept that have this type doubling that almost has two complete dates showing. these looks like something caused the die to slide out of shape about halfway down where the center of the letters and nubers are. this looks similar to machine doubling but it is not because the coins are identical to each other when found.
