I have been following the old threads on this gold 1880 Alphonso XII 4 peso coin going back to 2005. Some time ago I purchased at an auction a cased set of these coins dated 1880 to 1885. I have a suspicion that they are commemorative; however, they must be very rare because only a hundred sets were made. Mine is No 18. The Authentication inside the case reads - LOS CUATRO PESOS DE MANILA DEL ANO 1880 DE 1885 DE ALFONSO XII EN ORO FINO DE 22 KILATES. 100 JUEGOS NUMERADOS POR SU ORDEN DEL 1 AL 100. PESO 6.45 POR PIEZA, No 18. I have photo's. Has anyone ever come across a set like this before?
You must be a very wealty man my friend. I looked under Krause Philippines KM 151. The mintages of all the years are unknown. The years 1883 & 1884 are reported, but not seen. the value of your coins are as follows: 1880 - $25,000 1881 - $40,000 1882 - $4,000 1883 - reported but never seen. My estimate $100,000 1884 - reported but never seen . My estimate $100,000 1885 - $25,000 Intrinsic value as a set together ????? Perhaps $350,000 Hope they are real. Fasinating set.
