Acquired this Morgan 1892 CC. What would you grade this coin? What is your estimate of value given market conditions now (mid April, 2011) ?
A few small hits on the cheek, reverse looks pretty good. I would be surprised if it doesn't grade 63 or 64 tops, value between $1860 - $2660 from numismedia.com.
the coin doesnt look ms to me. to flat on some obverse points and the eagles breast. also trying to compare your pictures to mine it looks over dipped? or PL. somewhere around 400 i think. and what leadfoot said.
First, welcome to the neighborhood, Julia! It doesn't appear to have any luster. Is this a scan? The eagle's breastfeathers lack the detail of a decent strike, and that gouge across the breast doesn't help. I'd guess it is MS63 if the luster is there. If I were you, I'd put it in a new 2x2 or flip and get rid of those rusty old staples. Chris
I vote AU details, cleaned. If authentic, I'd ballpark the market value at $500 retail, $250 wholesale.
It is a scan w/ cheap scanner. Thanks for the welcome and the pointers too! J See title. _______________ Chris Thanks for the welcome and comments. Yes it is a scan with cheap scanner. Thanks for nice tips. J _____________________________
I've been burnt on scans before. Knowing that it is a scan my assumption is that the luster is still there on the coin. I would grade it 63 as I think the softness/flatness on the eagles breast and on the hair above the ear is a strike issue and not wear. In hand if their are breaks in the luster on the high points I would than my grade would be AU.
AU55. It looks like the breast feathers on the reverse, and the hair above the ear on the obverse are worn. Meaning it most likely has circulated some. Redbook lists $675 in AU50. You could probably get $5-600 for it if you listed it with those photos on eBay.
