What exactly is this?

    I found this penny in a penny roll from the bank. It is definitely metallic, but I am not sure what is up with it. I also remember turning pennies silver in middle school, but it was never this distinct. Thanks!

    It's not turning pennies silver, it's removing the copper-zinc plating, therefor making it look silver when its really not.
