Hi i found this coin in my gmoms drawer . i guess it belonged to my ggmom(the birth date fits). Is it worth anything or is it just a piece of jewelery with a date on it?
Actually, could be worth more. Look for a letter above the word dollar below the wreath on the back. That looks to be a decent EF from what I can see, I would probably only pay VF though. If there is no letter around $52. If you see an O $36. If you see an S $41. If you don't see a letter could you get a really close up picture of the area around the tail feathers?
And at this time exactly current melt is $31.29. Do you see how spot changes from time to time during open trading?
hehe thanx for the feedback. my gramma doenst mind shes long gone.. makes no difference if its worth 30 or 50 it goes back to her jewelery box. Thank You.
There is rim damage evident, even with the coin still in the bezel. (Look above the "T" in "UNITED" to see what I mean.) 1901-o isn't a rare date by any measure. You can probably get a MS-64 for $100 or so. In the condition your coin is, it is currently worth "spot" (~$32), you could ask $35 (and probably get it), but I'm sure it has far greater sentimental value to your mom/dad (whoever's mother's mother was born in 1901). It's unlikely that the coin will ever be in high demand, as even in the most extreme silver bull run scenarios, the silver content doesn't reach $100.
