The coins were originally selling as a group for 220 but I got them for 185. I'm wondering if I got a good deal, an average one or a bad deal.
Somehow the last coin got attached as a thumbnail, not sure how. I am still new to this site and thought I selected display full.
Well, looking at completed sales recently on the Bay, 1840 Rupee - 2 AU details sold for $34 and $37, 2 problem free MS-61 sold for $89 and $129, so value is somewhere between there. Maybe $70? 1912 5 Kopeks - can't find any completed recent sales, but there are a few raw listed at $100, which is quite optimistic. 1919C Rupee has sales between $60 - $134. Average it out and call it $100? All told... you got a fair deal. I'm not sure what your goals are (if you like them, collecting those types, resell?). You paid retail for 2 nice coins and a problem.
I'd say that if you like them, you paid a good price. Collecting is all about keeping the coins/currency you like, regardless of what other think, or the price. BTW - Happy belated birthday. My father was born on Nov. 22nd.
Thanks for taking the time to break 'em down individually like that. I was too lazy. Nice stuff. Too bad about the cleaning on the Victoria rupee, but it's still a handsome coin. I like those Young Head types. Interesting that NGC denoted as cleaned on the obverse, specifically. I've never seen them single out one side for the notation like that.
Well often, the cleaning is on both sides so they don't have to! I see "Obv Tooling" and "Obv Graffiti" called out sometimes too.
I agree with what @Mountain Man said here. And my father also was born on November 22nd. Just had his 84th birthday. I'm gonna be joining him for dinner in a couple of hours.
In the future contact us before you make the deal. As you can see we have some of the best in the business here who can help guide you with your negotiations. Enjoy your cons and the hobby, nice to have you here on Coin Talk.
Ah. Since I failed to address that original question properly, I'd say you got an average deal. Neither a ripoff nor a screaming bargain. Just about right, if you like the coins.
I don't have the means to take pictures of some coins my father left to me. I'm just now going over the coins. I'm not sure exactly how the would be listed, so here goes. 1943 Shilling from Australia 1941 Bronze Penny from New Zealand 1922 One-Half Penny From Great Britain 1917 One Penny 1938 Three Pence 1954 Six Pence 1943 One Anna from India 1944 One Anna Korea One Hundred Won? 1949 One Pfenning Germany Not a lot, but my Father got some of them when he was serving in the South Pacific during WW II. Any idea about a source to find out about them.
Sure, you can search the Numista database. Or use Google search. For your first example, I put the keywords “1943 shilling Australia Numista” (without quotation marks) into a Google search, and the first result was the correct type: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces2975.html Note that two types of George VI Australian shillings appear in the search results. That’s why it was useful to enter the year. Try it with your others. Country, denomination, date, and the name “Numista”. No quotation marks. Most of the time your search results will land pretty close, but sometimes it takes a little trial and error.
