I agree. They give copper coins RedBrown and Brown designation, why stop there? Green, Blue, Yellow, Pink, magenta... Purple wait that would be RedBlue or RB that won't work! lol legitimate question. The Statue of Liberty I presume is 100% copper and green. I see copper roofs and gutters that are green, is it because the little bit of tin that cents don't turn green?
They will turn green if they are left outside exposed to the elements. As for roofs and gutters, a great many of them are intentionally turned green immediately after instalation.
Yes, cents will turn green when exposed to the elements. I actually have some cents found by metal detecting from a friend, and they are a gorgeous glossy green. They are about XF/AU and I don't think I would trade them for any BU cent. Most us copper is brown because it was never in the ground. This is too bad, since my favorite ancient coins have beautiful gloosy green patina, which most US collectors will never have the joy of owning. I wonder if my beautiful green cents would be labeled as environmental damage? If they were ancients that same toning would double the price at a minimum.
The colors are correct. I would only agree with Doug as I think this might have spooked them off from giving this coin a grade. The texture toning is one guarantee the coin is all natural and it is unfortunate it didn't get graded. Matt, try resubmitting with PCGS instead and maybe it will get a nice grade then.
By texture toning do you mean textile toning ? If so, even textile toning can be deliberately created by anybody who has a mind to do it.
The texture toning is an indication that is may be NT. I agree with Doug that it is reproducible. I "reproduced" it accidentally once. Had a bag of new cents in my basement at my old house and it got damp. Stupidly I just brought them upstairs but didn't open and dry off. A couple months later I did and had texture toned lincolns on the outside of the bag. I ended up spending them all, (well just deposited them into my bank). Its simply moisture, air, and clean original surfaces. That is all toning is, and I would say its harder NOT to have toned coins than to have them. Yes, to some of us its pretty, but I would never say any type of toning is not reproducible, either intentionally or unintentionally like my stupid self. Ruined a perfectly good bag of cents. Want a bag full of textured coins? Buy new cents or silver coins and put them in a bag with some air circulating and humid. Wait.
I am one of the few who has had little to no problems with threads running wider than the screen, but yet this thread is doing it to me. Is it just me or is it doing it for others also?
I am not having any issues, nor have I had any for a long time. I use IE7 and run XP Pro. I also have my personal settings set so that all images are automatically resized.
I did a little playing. It is LostDutchman's photo that is causing the problem (every other page has no problem), but it is absolutely being resized. It is not even 1/4 the width of my screen
The problem lies in the way CT vbulletin handles the image code with IE. This is the ONLY forum that I have the problem on....end of story. I suspect it has something to do with the mouse hover>auto image open function.
I don't know how to explain why it affects some and not everyone. And then only at certain times. I can only tell you it doesn't affect me. And I know Peter has done everything he can to resolve the issue. Best I can say is life aint perfect.
