I picked this medallion up at today's coin show. Its struck with "RIYZ 50" on one side. Not the greatest condition but I think it's still pretty cool! @BRandM, what do you think?
I'm not familiar with it ikandiggit, and it's not listed anywhere in Brunk (Canadian or U.S. section) or Rulau. It seems to be a "good-for" token worth 50 cents towards a product or service. My first impression was maybe an admission check to a theatre or club, maybe good for a drink, show or something similar. I see it has a date (1933) so it was obviously issued after that. It does look 1940's or 1950's, but probably not later. It looks like someone painted the token red for some reason. Sorry I can't help you with it. Bruce
Thanks for looking BRandM. Just now I found one online. It's a "World"s Grain Exhibition Regina 1933" medallion. The "Ritz" was the Ritz Hotel in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in the 1930's. I'm guessing this medal was counterstamped to be used there during the exhibition. http://bid.lowercanadaauction.com/World-s-Grain-Exibition-Regina-1933_i6604207 "The Ritz Hotel with the Theatre next door in the 1930s. 1930 (?) 21st St. East, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada"
I think you're right. It may have been good for a drink or meal in the hotel. Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to pass it on to Greg Brunk. Bruce
