I am trying to buy a collection. However, it requires an International Money Order, not a transfer but a Mony order. I have tried the local banks, Western Union, and MoneyGram. None actaully do International only regular money orders. I have also tried the post office, they do not cover the country I am sending to. Any ideas? Thank you.
My Walmart has a sign in the exchange/service area that says "International money orders", but I have never checked it out as to countries or if it is there due to the proximity of Mexico. Might give one nearby you a call and inquire. The fees might be much higher than one imagines if Western Union doesn't serve the country. Jim
Ask the person you are paying about the Postal Money orders, because a lot of people overseas have some way to getting the MO deposited into an account and their getting the funds. I have sent regular USPS money orders to people in Lithuania, Canada(of course) Great Britain, Netherlands etc. Western Union and MoneyGramme do international MO's, that I know because I use both for E. Europe all the time. I have even sent funds to myself over in E. Europe that way as a backup source of cash.
If you live near an international airport, you might try the customs office or duty-free store. Chris
I send the Walmart Moneygrams overseas quite a bit, with only rare issues. As SA says, double-check with the seller, but this seems to be a pretty common mechanism. 10-20 years ago, I used to get something called an "international money order" from the bank or post office, but I think that terminology is no longer current. I don't know "Moneygrams" remind me of "Candygrams" I do not think I would like a big fat toothless old guy coming to my house saying "Here's your moneygram (candygram)" Nope not for me.
The international postal money orders are overpriced and really not worth the effort. They are supposed to be good in the UK and Canada, but a lot of Canadians take the regular green money orders and put them through their banks if they have branches clearing in the USA. A lot of UK dealers will take USA cheques and clear them through their USA offices and bank branches.
