Hi folks. I've been thinking about getting a few ancients and I finally bit the bullet This is a silver Antoninianus featuring Gordian III and Providentia. Minted in 243 A.D. I think I might now have an addiction lol.
Congrats on getting your first ancient. It is addicting once you start. I never thought I would be so immersed in them as I have become. As for the coin, its a decent start as Gordian III has plenty to choose from and in many price ranges. If you have any questions, dont hesitate to ask.
Yes, as Mat says Gordian III is a popular first ancient. Congrats. My advice would be to learn as much as you can. I would look for a 1988 version of Roman Coins and their Values. This is a great first book on Roman coins, and the prices will give you relative rarity. Education is both the reward and the goal of collecting ancients, and will reward you both monetarily and with greater enjoyment of the hobby.
i think im starting to get addicted to romans too, from seeing all these pics. too bad im broke at the moment:so-sad:
Coingrats Petro. You have been doing your homework, thats is a nice one. The silver wash is intact. Good start. I like it.
Thanks for the kind words and good advice. I will be doing a lot of research. I already have a couple more bronze coins on the way. I'll post them when they arrive.
