I see the new 2006s are (I live in a remote area, so this could be OLD news to some of you folks - sorry :)

Any idea when the new nickels are going to come out? If they have not been already. How does one get rolls of the new nickels... I have a feeling these face front Jeffersons are going to be HOT. I'd like to get a roll of them, preferably NEAR face value, but the banks tell me they don't control the coin they get in. Any ideas on getting coins would be great - Thanks Esky

I'm yet to find one. I guess money doesn't circulate so much in new york, mostly credit cards.

They won't be near face value, but you can order them direct from the U.S. Mint. You can also check other coin dealers, or eBay.

I found one in my change a couple of days ago. I was especially surprised because I actually found it in the bottom of my washing machine the next day,a bit worse for wear but it's temporarily holding the space in my album.
Anyone else buy the replacement nickel pages for the Dansco album with spaces for the Westward Journey nickels?

I just picked up some rolls of the new nickel and the Nevada Quarters last week at a local bank in Roanoke VA. Its always been luck of the draw for me as to if the bank has any.

I did get to a coin shop and he had the rolls from the mint. I was able to pick 5 Ds and Ps respectively - $.40 cents each.... not bad! I will say I am tremendously impressed and tremendously disappointed in the same moment regarding these new nickels. #1 I am impressed by the artistry of the coin. It is beautiful and a nickel worth collecting - the art is impressive. #2 I am very disappointed in the coindition of these business strike coins. HORRIBLE! Nicks all over, not very shiney and light and nondescript detail. Maybe the dealer got a bad couple rolls, but I know the mint can do better than that. I'll look for the proofs down the road, but as for the circulated - I am terribly disappointed in the strike. I have a feeling these coins will wear very badly over time. Collect a bunch of them now!

I am not sure if I like the new portrait of Jefferson. It doesn't look like any image of him I have ever seen before...he looks a little creepy to me.

I am all for different designs on circulating coins though, mainly because it makes things interesting and brings new people to the hobby.

I do my shopping at a nearby Military base and they seem to get the latest coins very early. Most of the facilities are "ID Card required" but the bowling alley is a place where they don't check ID's and they seem to get the same coins as the rest of the facilities.

I don't know really. He looks like he should be an extra in Tim Burton's movie of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It's probably just me.

    :D :D Nope, it's not just you.

Mr. Jefferson has been losing a lot of weight lately, and he's growing lots of hair.

That doesn't look like Jefferson. Its official, they ruined one of the ugliest coins in Mint History by making it uglier.

I haven't seen one yet and since the Jefferson Nickel is such a nothing I don't think I want to see the new ones. Unfortunately I eventually will have to get some to fill the slots in the Albums.

Actually, now that I look at it more..... HE DOES LOOK CREEPY!!!! LOL

I think the idea was good... and I do like new artistry so I'm impressed... but yeah... beauty is only skin deep I guess! lol ... However, that doesn't make up for all the darn NICKS and SCRATCHES these buggers come with! Poor strikes is all I've seen so far... terrible.
