I searched through $210 worth of halves and pulled 1 90% and 9 40%. I now have a total of 33. 40%x29 90%x4 I'm hoping to have better luck but im definatly satisfied!

Ok, so I was at my local grocery store looking for loose change to buy. They did go thru the halves for me, nuthin good, but one lady said "let me show you what I found" She brought out a 1896 Morgan and a 2003 silver eagle. I said, "You got those from customers???" she said "yes".

I tried to get them both off of her for $2 each (she said she didn't know what they were worth, but knew they were at least $1). Her friend then stated that her father always bought silver eagles for $20.

I knew I had to try to get these coins from this lady. Her friend then said "A Pawn shop would prob give you like $10 for each coin". I then moved in and offered $40 for both, she obliged :) ....Not technically a "roll find" however, I thinks its worth a "Victory Dance" considering I basically got one of them for free :) ...hehehehehehehehe....

    Moonshine ....................

I'm at 2 40%ers after 6 boxes but I am not going to complain after this little find today. I hit 5-6 local banks that I have accounts at. Found 2 40%ers in $2.50 worth of halves at one bank. I also usually buy rolls of nickels but decided to also get some dimes. I left one bank with 4-5 rolls of CWR dimes. I checked the ends and one had a silver. I checked the next dime in the same roll and it was also silver (both Rosies). This is where a lesson was learned...I should have went back into the bank and brought the roll with me and asked the teller if she had anymore of the same type of CWR's. There are different types of wrappers and this one was different than the others.

Anyway, when I got home I dumped the roll and it was a full roll of silver!

    16 Mercs
    34 silver Rosies

That is awsome Moonshine! I bought two Mercs from a co worker for $3 today. I'm very new and don't know if I got a good deal but last week I paid 2.50 for 1.

Desert: Did you see my purchase deal today (above a couple posts) I love knowing about the coinage to come out on top!! Knowledge is power, especially to a n00b like me :)

Ultra: I sure did, I'm highly jealous ha. All I get when I tell people I collect coins is an awkward stare and no help like that! At my work a lady found a great shape walking liberty half, but unfortunatly she knew it was worth some money! I can't complain though, I been having some luck too!

These are my '66 (all where 1966) I found the other day from $12 in loose: (BTW, how do you clean the black ones, or leave them alone?)

Hi, guys. I'm new to the roll-searching business, so I have been starting slow and going to branches of the bank that I actually have an account at. The first couple had a few half-dollars but nothing special. I asked if they had any more in a vault somewhere and was told no. I went to yet another branch and they told me that they did have some in the back and asked me how many I wanted. I told them $100 worth. So they went in the back and brought them out to me. I casually asked them where they came from and they said they came from the coin counting machine. So right way I was thinking I am getting someone's leftovers and it sure seemed that way because that load was a skunk. I went to yet another branch to dump them off and I asked the teller there if they carry any rolls of dimes or quarters that customers have rolled and brought in. She said they didn't have any because they make everyone bringing that much change dump them in the coin counter. Lesson learned on my part. I now see why every one likes to order boxes. I stopped at a few other banks on my way home and politely explained to tellers that I didn't have an account there but I was looking for half dollars. They happily shared with me what they had in their drawers but no luck there either. I may have to change tactics...

    out of $300 of quarters

    12 bicentennials
    1 cud/rim error Maryland quarter

How do I know my coin is a proof?

Hi, I'm just starting as well (last week) and I got lucky asking for loose halves from each teller. Other teller's don't know what the other one has, so you have to ask them down the row (if they aren't busy).

I also got lucky at the customer service/money order counter at my local grocery store. They get odd coins too, and I had one lady willing to sell me her coins (very cheap). Good luck, I hope this helps!!

Thanks for the response. Each time I asked a teller if they had half dollars they also asked all the other tellers around. I went around when the banks weren't busy so I guess it gave the tellers something to do to pass the time. I read the post about your finds. I don't think I have the kind of luck (or patience, for that matter) to stop at multiple banks and find anything interesting in the loose change the tellers have. I was hoping to find some individual rolls to search through but I won't be able to get those with my 'house account' bank. I'll either have to look elsewhere or start getting boxes. Right now I am just kind of experimenting with how I go about looking for silver. With my serious lack of luck I may have do box searching to help me out on the odds.

Stopped in at a couple of banks yesterday, picked up a few random rolls of each denomination with nothing to show but less fuel in my tank. I did run across a teller that had 7 silver nickels and 2 silver dimes sitting in her tray, but she would not sell them to me, she said she was saving them for herself. She also told me that she searches all the coins and rolls that people turn in through her. Really ticked me off, so I called in to complain to the branch manager, turns out that she was the manager.... what do you do? Guess I wont be going there again.

Bony - if you are really wanting to complain you can call another branch and report them to a superior - there is always another rung in the ladder haha.

Maybe I will. Truth be told though, if I worked at a bank I would do the exact same thing that she does. It was only my greed and jealousy that caused my frustration. I read this thread every day, and I admit, some of the posts here make me green with envy, but mostly they help keep me hopeful and motivated to continue my search!
