Just started collecting Buffalo's and this is my first one of many more I hope.

It's a 1928-D if you didn't know. If you want to collect the whole series, buy the rarest dates first.

Yes. Buy the rarest dates in the highest grade you can first. Always, always, always.

Now that you got your first one, pick up an album or folder and start filling 'er up.

Congratz on the nickel. Everyone needs a set of these. Take your time and look around as you can find some very nice coins at low prices for the later dates. Happy Hunting.

First, you need to pick a grade that you want to collect that corresponds with your budget. Some of the dates & varieties you'll need are fairly expensive. I would recommend a date set first. That way you can avoid some of the more expensive "S" mint coins, 18/17-D and the 3-legger. If after putting together the date set, and having the money to do so, then you can start on the full set.

Also, there are two books that I have that have come in handy. Get "The Guidebook of Buffalo & Jefferson Nickels" by Mr Q. David Bowers and "The Complete Guide to Buffalo Nickels" by Mr David W. Lange. Some good reading.

A couple of tips. I am 2 1/2 years in to building my Buffalo set in a Dansco album. I chose a minimum grade of AU-58. I have 15 coins left and haven't filled a slot in over 4 months. I have quickly come to realize that some Buffalo's are hard to come by in this grade. Some of the more common dates I have in MS. I will say though that it's fun to break open the Dansco album and look at what I have so far.

    Good luck.

I will pick a grad and start herding them up.
I think it great how even a simple nickel can spark such interest, and others are willing to give advice and help
    Thanks again
