Easter is coming up and my parents said I can pick out some coins, totaling $40. Bit of a tight budget but I'll make it work! I'll probably end up getting one decent coin instead of 4 or 5 bad coins. I'm thinking a common barber half or quarter, but I'm open to any ideas. I was also thinking Indian head penny or a decent 2 cent piece. Any ideas?

Some common, decent condition Mercury dimes or silver quarters/dimes would be my choice (after some Lincolns to fill my album)

If you want 1 coin worth 40 bucks, then get a semi-key instead of common. I don't know prices off the top of my head, so I can't give specific examples.

Either way, definitely go for AU or MS. I see no reason to get a lower grade for common coins.

Go with a semi-key. You can always buy the cheap ones later.

Get a box of pennies from the bank, and a nice, late-date Walker half.

I would get a semi key date Lincoln. Maybe a 1911-S, 1924-D, or a 1912-S, as stated above, buy the cheaper ones later. The semi keys are only getting a little more value as the years pass.

I have my eye on a late date Buffalo Nickel that is a full gem that is 40 bucks retail at my local coin shop. Its a common date but the detail and mint luster really show off the design. Or I would find a nice MS indian cent from 1900 or maybe a killer 1909 vdb Lincoln if your dealer is kind. If these are not available, you can always get a common silver eagle. JMO
