Hey guys. I know ive been posting a lot since i joined but hey im young and in love.......with coins. Anyway i have a 1962 franklin half proof. It is in au condition. Not bu because it has a few tiny tiny bag marks. Anyways ithas beautiful amber colored toning wich can be seen in my post called soooooooo ****ed. I was wondering if this toning effects the price in a positive or negative way. Ive heard that toning drives up the price of coins but is that only on rare low quantity coins? And the toning is pretty even around the edge of the reverse giving it a beautiful amber frame. The obverse is the same accept it has a larger covering in the upper left corner coming about two mm into the coin

I think if the toning was a bit more distinct or had the Rainbow effect it would be worth a pretty penny....but sadly this does little to the value. Maybe $15 more than book value $20 at best.

Trust me the toning is very visible and obvious in person. I will try to take better ocs cuz these do the coin no justice

That type of toning is VERY common. It isn't nice toning - but not ugly, and it's not blast white either, so it should not have an affect on the price.

AU means "about uncirculated" and indicates that the coin has some wear. A proof coin with wear is called an impaired proof. If the coin has marks or hairlines, it will lower the grade, but it will not drop it out of the uncirculated range PF60-PF70. I see nothing that would make the coin impaired. Regarding the toning, it is attractive but I think it would be neutral in relation to the price. In other words, I don't think that toning would drive a significant premium.

Im sure it will have a little premium but not much, i know this because i might be willing to pay 5 mabye 10 bucks more just for the toning.

Yeah, the toning is a nice start. Put it in an album for a few years and it should progress nicely.

I have a 1962 Proof Franklin still in the flat pack that's overall a deep metalic golden tone with rainbow highlights. Had a guy look at it the other day and say, "Why don't you clean that thing". LOL

The coin looks great in the pics. I think the toning looks nice, but not worth a premium, but that's just me.

No premium for toning like that and as stated the coin is not AU which is a good thing...nothing wrong with the coin at all.

Nice Franklin PR, but the toning around the edge will do little for the value.

I would say $20 is a good price for that.

Your coin is more desireable than a blast white coin IMO

If I were given a choice between a blast white Franklin and one toned like yours, then I would pick the toned coin. It may not bring much $ premium but it might sell more easily.
