I went to the Baltimore show on Friday and had a great time. I drove down with 1066merlin, and also met a couple of other CT'ers, including kanga and Charmy. I picked up a handfull of coins and tokens, but I think my best pickup was this beautiful NJ obsolete from the Egg Harbor Bank. I already have a $1 note from them, but it's not nearly as nice as this one. Robert Teal had a big selection of NJ obsoletes, and I probably could have picked up two or three decent ones for what I paid for it, but I couldn't take my hands off this one. The engraving is just outstanding. I really couldn't pass on it. I didn't know if I'd ever get an opportunity at one this nice again. I hope you all like it, and thanks for looking.

    Beautiful note Bruce.
Is the center engraving portraying a mapmaker ?

You have a good eye Steve, I didn't really pay too much attention to the center engraving. My eye kept wandering to the impressive looking "V" on the left side. The center vignette does appear to represent a mapmaker or explorer. It may be an allegorical figure representing world exploration or scientific advancement of some kind.

Thanks for the comments guys. Haxby says the bank also issued $2 and $10 notes as well, so now I'll have to start looking for them. I like to try to get one example of each denomination, but I know that's not always possible. Looking for them is half the fun though.

That is a very nice Obsolete. The large "V" (5) has always been an attractor for me as well.
No longer collect Large Size or Obsoletes but they sure are fun to look at!

Yep, I like the classic viginette. I guess they represent Ceres and exploration. Good find. However, from Egg Harbor a "Jersey Devil" note would be fun.

LMAO! Same here, I had no interest in anything but US coins. Now I'm all over the place!

Ripley, I have to agree with you on the comment about the vignette. Obsoletes have the best!
