Merlin, have you notice how much the Icelandic coinage looks like the coinage of the early Irish Republic ?

I hope I didn't bore you with all of these photos. After nearly 6 hours of searching the world coin area, these were the best I could find. I asked one dealer if he had the 1930 Kronur set, his reply "you'll never find those they are just to rare". (he doesnt know me very well, LOL) Which brings me to the one that got away. I so wanted to find a 1930 Kronur set and I actually found 2 of them. Stacks auction had 2! I was SO excited to see them in the case. They were not in their original boxes just stacked in flips. I asked the dealer to see both sets. I stayed calm on the outside but inside I was doing back flips!!!! I went over the sets very closely. One set had spots of vertigris here and there, the other had a couple rim dings. I asked what the dealer wanted for them.......$600.00! My stomach just sank. I had been talking with Siggi and Iceman the past few weeks and they told me not more than $500. I could hear them telling me DON'T DO IT! So I let them I had to let go. Concidering they were not in perfect shape, not in their boxes I hope I did the right thing.

Thanks for looking, any and all comments welcome

Yes, it could be why I like them so much. Irish coins are by far my favorites with Iceland a VERY close second

Like I say Mark, the Icelandic coins have nice clean, no-nonsense designs. I like them very much. I'll make you a deal, I'll start an Icelandic set if you start collecting counterstamps.

Your well on your way to becoming a collector of Icelandic coins,,,,I'm a little envous of that 1961 toned 5 Aurar,,,You just don't find them,,,
I once came across a 1940 5 Aurar with stunning colors on Ebay from a seller in China and when I got the coin it was even more beautiful in
hand,,,,It looks to be all natural ,,,,but I will find out if this is the case when I send it in to NGC for grading next week,,,With a few others I
    been wanting to have graded.

    Hi Iceman,
can you post a photo of the 1940 5 Aurar? What you see literally took me nearly 6 hours to find. I was pretty disapointed with the 1930 set though. Oh well, I'll find one ont of these times! Thanks for the comments!

Nice pickups at the show Merlin. I'm sure Siggy and the Iceman would approve. I especially enjoyed viewing the 500 Kronur. That's a proof, right? Beautiful coin.....:)

Here is the picture of my 1940 5 Aurar that you asked to see. It looks much better in hand.
The reverse has someones finger print on the coin,,Which was a bit of a disappointment,,But
I'll keep it any way,,,You just don't see older Icelandic coins with toning on them. But you will
see plenty of Brown coins and coins with a lot of vergis on them,,,,,So this is a rare treat.
When I got the coin it came in a old paper 2x2.
