I got the Dansco 7070 for Christmas and enjoy working on it. A few probles: Why is there not a separate hole for the silver clad Kennedy's (40% silver) vs. the regular clad Kennedys? That is a big mistake IMHO. I mean they have other composition changes in there (like the 43 cents and the war nickels). I'd like it to have a slot for Westward Movement Nickel and a Shield Cent, but it doesn't. I wish it only had on 20 cent piece and 1 half dime as it would be cheaper to fill, lol. But overall, I like it a lot and have a ways to go to fill it. Right now I'm just filling the holes as I can with coins that may not be the best; I'll upgrade them in the future. I was looking at it today, in fact, and found a box of coins I didn't remember that I had received from my dad. In it, there was an 1875 Seated Liberty Half that I didn't know I had...........One more hole filled. Of course, one day, I'll upgrade it because it is in terrible condition, but for now, it fills a hole (and I still have quite a few holes).
Wow, cointalk is awesome. The last reply before mine on this particular thread was over 4 years ago. But within just minutes of adding to it, I hear 2 more replies -how cool! jmon, I agree with you, I'd like to be able to page through a type set and have it always and forever remain together versus using individual holders that would likely be separated at some point. Good luck on replacing those air-filled holes I also very much agree with bobbeth87 on the selection of the 7070 album. I too was looking for a slot for 40% silver Kennedy's and couldn't find one. Maybe the composition change from 90% to 40% was not enough to constitute a different type. I believe there IS only one 20 cent piece however. I also notice that sometimes certain types seem to be omitted due to their scarcity or value. For example there looks to be 3 more varieties of Quarter Dollars before the first slot for the Capped Bust Quarter of 1831. I would think the preceding variety 1 (large diameter) would obtainable for under $100 in Good condition but your odds would definitely diminish for the next 2 older types. Perhaps there is a cutoff based on mintage? One thing I don't necessarily like about the the Dansco 7070 album is that all the pages are made to accept the same thickness of coins. Quarters, Halves and Dollars fit nicely but the smaller coins like dimes and half dimes can look kind of wedged and cockeyed on display. I'm pushing my coins in using a plastic fork versus my finger to avoid any extra oil & tarnish but it's hard to get those smaller coins situated properly. Regardless, I do like the album and am having lots of fun filling it. At my last show I picked up an 1806 Draped Bust Half Cent to fill the very first hole in my album
1: I use the Dansco 2: Personally, I think the Dansco has holes that shouldn't be in there, like state quarter or 4 holes for early commems. 1 hole for the early commems would be good. Also, I notice there is just silver and clad holes for the JFK, where they should have a slot for 40%. But that's about it. All in all, it's cool. 3: Not far enough along on mine to answer that, but I would guess that the pre-Morgan dollars are going to be a challenge for my budget. 4: My goal is to get the best I can afford, HOWEVER, I am focusing on eye-appeal. I don't want to have a bunch of modern blast white coins and then fade out to AG classics. Therefore I am looking for borderline AU-BU modern coins with great details and slight toning, so when I get lower grade classics, they aren't overwhelmed by the difference in grade. Sort of a balancing act. I figure if every coin has eye appeal, it won't matter so much... Therefore, blast white coins are pretty much banned. I think the last page, with the most modern coins along with the Eagle and modern commem dollar is the only page with pure white coins in my album.
