Well, today I unexpectedly ended up bringing home four different types of metals. First off, everybody thought these were pretty interesting. These are 1 oz. .999 copper rounds that were the best I've seen. I probably should have gotten more. They were going for $5 a piece. EDIT: They're going a lot cheaper on ebay so I'm glad I didn't buy more! Geez. Blew it on these.

Then I picked up a couple for my US type set. The 1883 No cent is not as high quality as I really wanted but it was one of the best I found at a very reasonable cost. Would like one with luster to it but this will fill the spot for now. The Barber dime is just a 1914 AU range, I'd say.

Lastly, I went down there for a $5 gold piece. Didn't really have anything specific in mind. Then I ran across this 1881-S in an old PCGS slab graded MS-60. The guy called it a rare 1881-S over O. This attribute does not show up on the label (of course) in the red book or on NGCs price guide so I don't know if he's making it up or not. But it definitely looks like an 'O' behind the S to me. I've included a pic of it here. See what you guys think. I really have a thing for overdates and mintmarks. This one has great luster and really no blemishes with very limited contact marks. I believe it could upgrade if re-submitted today.

I forgot to take a pic of the label.

    Here's the MM:

Breens reference 6717 says that the small O is clear at center of the S. Not to be confused with filled mintmark.

It is stated as very rare.

Thanks for the info. So at least we know they exist. Based on the pic, what do you think? O or filled?

Breen doens't show an example in the encyclopedia and honestly, I can't tell if it's just a reflection or something in the center of the S with the current pictures. Sorry that I'm not really any help.

Just want to add that the show was extremely busy! It seems the worse the economy gets, the more people come out of the woodwork for these shows. I saw more gold being sold than I've ever seen before. A lot of high end currency was selling as well. The place was packed and people were buying. I thought maybe people would shy away over the recent high bullion prices but it was the exact opposite. It was not a buyer's market.

I appreciate your help. It was tough getting that pic. It's not a reflection. What you see is definitely raised metal. Based on your helpful description, I do believe it's the small "O" centered behind the S. But I don't know for sure. I listed it in my inventory as possible O/S.
