Silver at $9.40/ounce Dime: $0.68 Quarter: $1.70 Silver Clad Half: $1.39 Half: $3.40 Should be close to those numbers. BTW: Hello!
You didn't say which ones of each. You are aware that some coins are made of silver, some are partially silver, some are silver plated, some have no silver in them at all. The amount of different metals is listed in The Red Book for instance. Also note that the price of all metals fluctuates almost daily. Try to be more specific as to what year and type of coins you are refering to.
Oh, which ones are those? I agree with Burks' implied assumption that Linda was asking about pre-1965 coins, which is clearly what his answer relates to.
Is there a place on line where you can view 'recommended' dealer buy-sell prices for coin bullion? Each time I purchase a few silver coins (for the silver value only) I get different quotes. How do I figure out what the average price is based on current silver prices?
Silver clad half dollars are 40% silver half dollars that were minted from 1965 through 1970. Charlie
I should been more specific and included in my original message that I was indeed asking about pre 1965 coins. Thanks for responding.
The 1965-70 Kennedy halves are the only 40% silver coins. 40% is 4/9 of 90%, so their bullion value is 4/9 that of the earlier Kennedies - approximately 62¢.
I agree with the 4/9 thing, but are you certain that you did your math correctly? They should be worth about $1.20 (based on what i sold mine for recently).
That'll teach me to read other people's posts very carefully. Burks correctly gave values of $1.39 for the "silver clad half" and $3.40 for "halfs". I misread it, and computed the clad bullion value as 4/9 of the clad bullion value.
One Rule Of Thumb When Buying 90% Silver Coins Us Dimes ,quarters And Halves Pre 1964 Is To Take The Spot Silver Times .715. The Result Will Be The Price To Pay Times Face Value For The Coins!so With Silver At 9.55 Per Oz. Times .715 Equals 6.83 Times The Face Value Of The Coins.
And my guess is that is a very good price to pay. I look for silver to go up considerably in the long term.
