Hm, I guess that would be more plausible, seeing the color is okay.

I'm just now learnign all of the niceities in grading, which is why I stayed primarily in proof and mint sets before. What would the long term collectors in here sat it was graded at? I'll admit it looked liek it was cleaned with a wire bristle brush.....BTW, is there an online place that describes what to look for in each grade? Thanks in advance.

That's crazy! $1900 is in the problem free VF range for price!! That coin is definately not problem free and it is unlikely that it is really a VF anyway. The details are F15/Vf20ish, but since it was cleaned with sandpaper and has horrendous eye appeal I think I'd net grade it VG8

According to the Heritage price guide a problem free VF20 89CC should sell for 1000-1200 and according to me a sandpapered one should sell for about half that, so I think the winning bidder paid at least 4 times the value of the coin!

As I said above I think it has f15/vf20 details with such a harsh cleaning that I'd net grade it as G6/vg8.

For grading I recommend purchasing a few books. I know its not as convenient (or cheap) as the internet, but you will be glad you did.

If you need an online guide for Morgans then this site is pretty good.

I'm not sure of any other good grading site for the rest of the serieses (hmmm, is that a word? probably not, oh well...), so I guess books are really the best option.

Its amazing to me that someone would pay 2k for a coin and not know where it should really price. Talk about buyers remorse.
