The last $7500.00 worth of halves from Fed boxes and bags have produced ZERO sliver. I think I am getting some of my early dumps from the end of January before I switched banks(who has a different carrier) to ensure I don't get the same coins. I think I have about one more week of bad luck ahead. Hoipefully, that is all!!

Girl at the bank said they have 8 boxes of halves that someone brought in but did not open the rolls "just looked for imperfections"???? I have no idea what the heck that means. So I bought 2 boxes and pulled 4 40%ers.

Didn't want to search a lot - shorted one on a roll of dollars so I got $24
1 roll of dimes - nothing
    6 rolls of nickels - 1943-s,1941,1955-d,1956,1957,1958-d,1959,1959-d,1970-s-proof?
    14 rolls pennies - 1893 indian,'41,'44,'45d,'46,2x'51d,'53,'56d,'69s,'71s,'72s,'73s,'74s and a '77 ms-63?ish
Feels like a home run for such a small search.

Wonder if somebody thinks they can speed things up by just weighing the rolls, and only opening the ones that are overweight? You might be able to catch a roll with a 90%er that way -- although, as others have shown, a worn Barber or Walker might not outweigh a new clad coin -- but it seems like the weight difference between 40% and clad (0.16 g) is less than the tolerance for the coins, particularly if they've seen some wear.

How much does a roll of clad halves weigh?

The other day I was at the bank and bought two rolls of pennies just cause I was bored and in it I found something I never would have guessed would be in a roll of pennies, 6 dimes. The dimes weren't anything special nor were pennies but at least I made money. :smile

20 rolls of cents. Half CWR and half BWR. 4 Wheats with the oldest being a 1930. Two counter-stamped: One with a heart with "I love you" inside, the other with a outline of the US and a Liberty Bell. Only about 15% copper. Not happy about that.

    box of dimes, 3 slv (52, 63D, 64D).

Puts me at 110 for the first three months of the year.

Why do that? See, I ENJOY opening the rolls and searching. I find it relaxing.

    Yesterday:
    10 BWR: Skunk
    $14 loose: Skunk
    1 Box: 5 40%ers and 1 1963 Franklin :D

Here is the weird thing. In my last 48 boxes I've found 16 Franklins (I've never had a big find of Frankies, but in that 16 is 5 in one box, 3 in one box, 2 in one box and the rest singles). In the previous 111 boxes, I had found only 4 Franklins. I hope it continues, but I have seen a definite increase.

Congrats Inquisitive! My luck with dimes has been minimal. In 13 boxes I have 7 shutouts and no one box with more than 1 find. A 14th box I opened was all CWR and I found 3 silvers in that one.

Bags have been better for me, but I don't do them very often.

Thanks Bob. I haven't been able to get halves as often as you do (BWR is a bust here in NYC, and I've gotten only 4/5 finds CWR with more than 10 slv coins and a couple more with fewer), so I've switched. We will see how long it can go. I'm already seeing that one of my source banks is consistently producing skunks.

Well, my Halves skunk streak finally ended with Box #1. I got (2) 40% but then started another three box skunk streak.

    Box One-(2)40%
    Bow 2-4-Skunk

    8 CWRs netted 12 40%ers today.

Found these by chance, dropped off a couple boxes of dimes at my dump bank and the teller asked if I wanted eight rolls of halves that just came in.

So what would everybody say the average number of silver dimes you get in a box? One, Two??

  18. bobbeth87

    bobbeth87 Coin Collector

When I count bags and boxes, my average is 1.04 per box

So you expect to get roughly (4) Silver dimes in a $1000.00 bag? How long does it take you to search a $250.00 box and a $1000.00 bag?

    Thanks for the info.

$250 box will take you 30 minutes or so, $1000 bag will take you much longer because they're all loose... PITA.

Is there a difference between the time it takes to do a Brinks Box rather than Loomis or Garda? Also, which company have you had better luck with?

I am just trying figure out if it's worth it.
