Completely ignoring the prices in the red book is a bad idea. At least on the non silver coins. The silver coins, ignore the prices. All the others, the prices are pretty much in the arena of what the coins go for. As has been stated, they are actually low on some of the rarer coins. What everyone is missing is a key word right on the cover of the book. *GUIDE* Folks, the word guide means to direct or point in a direction. The prices are not written in stone. So use them as what they are...A GUIDE. I use it all the time to find out if the price is in the right ball park or if the dealer is smoking crack (like asking 70 bucks for a graded PF68 Silver 73 Ike. Dude was smoking crack. I knew that without the book, but a beginner might not)
I am sorry but both of you have missed my point. I am not saying that Red Book is not a good guide. I did my research for my own buying needs. I am not paying too much because I know what I will pay for a certain coin and grade. What I am saying that the prices you are saying you are getting from your dealers is close to Red Book price I am saying I have not seen that on local dealers, flea markets, shows, or the internet. And if you are? Where are you and I'll be glade to bring some money to your area. Thanks Big Ed
