Here is a token I think that is German and was good for 1 mark at a bar. Just wondered if any one knew anything about it. Thanks
I think you are right about it being a beer toke. Since the adress is on it, you can look it up on "Google Earth" and see if its still there. Be fun to go there and use the toke.
It is a kind of voucher (from what today would be called a customer loyalty program), worth 2 Pfennig. The text on the one side says that for 50 pieces of this coin you would get 1 Mark cash. (Except it is not actually a coin, and "Baar" is an odd spelling. ) The other side says it is a collect'n'save token. The store was apparently in Gütersloh (today in the state of North Rhine Westphalia): http://www.chroniknet.de/dspl_de.0.html?photo=8192 Christian
Forgot to mention that the token is probably 70+ years old. The abbreviation "D.R.G.M." was used in the German Empire to indicate a Utility Model protection, something like a minor patent. Christian
German happens to be my primary language, but it sure does not keep me from mixing German city names up. According to the link that I posted myself (duh), the store was not in Bielefeld but in nearby Gütersloh ... Christian
