Seems to be a necklace with 10 French 50 centimes coins, 8 French 1 Franc coins, 6 French 2 Franc coins, 1 French 5 Franc coin, 2 Morocco 50 Centimes coins, 4 Morocco 1 Franc Coins, and 1 Morocco 5 Mazunas coin. Quite a bunch, none newer than 1941 I think. All the coins have been shaped into a bowl. This effect doesn't show up great in the scan, but you could fill these with Lucky Charms. The most disturbing thing is that the French 5 Francs is from 1938, a pretty decent date, one I do not have.
If you don't want to save it as is, Sell it as coin jewelry. You will realize a better price as a necklace than sell the damaged coins
Sell it as vintage belly dancing chain, handmade using 32 genuine coins, likely in Vichy French Morocco. Geez, you can practically hear Bogey saying "play it again, Sam"
I've seen French silver coins made into jewlery, or sewn into clothing, by Hmong (pronounced "mung") immigrants here in Minnesota. The Hmong are originally from hills of Laos, an old "French Union" country, which explains why they used French coins. Maybe that's what this is? If it IS, I would NOT break it up or sell it for scrap. It would be considered Hmong folk art (or some other ethnic folk art), and therefore quite valuable. Stuff like this, properly attributed, can go for $$$.
My acha (Lao/Burmese drinking helmet. Note Burmese coins for adornment. Common in golden Triangle for the ladies to wear thier money.
Those francs are aluminum-bronze, the Moroccan coins are Nickle. The big 5 franc may be silver if it is 1933 or earlier.
1938 5 francs is Nickel or something similar too Q PS : it's better to keep that as a souvenir, as the damaged coins are worthless and the whole necklace has an historical value in itself
Whatever you do, don't put it around the neck of a Moroccan woman. That means you want to marry her grandmother. Chris
I showed it to my wife, thinking that sometimes she surprises me and likes weird stuff. She just called it crude. So, its up for selling. Is ebay the best bet for this thing? What category?
Ripley, Do you keep the helmet handy when you're drinking? Seems like a very fun idea, really!!!Yes, the necklace could go nicely with it... Lucy Seriously, the helmet is very very intriguing to me. How cool!!
