Just got this 5 minutes ago......looks to have some spidery scratches and I know nothing about 1c pieces but would be interested to hear from CT members as I think I did OK at hammer of 80 bucks. It's slabbed by NGC at MS64......any comments appreciated....marbury518
I'll let other users voice their opinions about the coin and the price, but I do have a question for you... Why in the world would you bid on a coin you know nothing about? Especially a serious bid like $80? Sometimes I just don't understand...
I was aware of such a coin being retailed well over 3 times what I paid before I bid, so not completely in the dark as it were.........the JM Jewellers catalogue would tell you that and this has often been found to be about right when triangulated for comparison with other dealers like George Manz, so I would have thought this buy would have opportune. If others disagree, I'll take that on board of course.

If you're happy with it marbury then you did just fine. I like the coin. I am curious about the scratchs though, they appear to be on the holder. Are they? Bruce
1c I guess the third party graders wouldn't slab something that high with scratches on the coin...sent the pictures to George Manz and he is a recognised authority on these coins....see what he says.....I see he sells (and has sold) this year and grade for 5 times what I just paid, so difficult to see how I didn't do OK.
I have to agree about the scratches. Marbury, if you like the coin you didn't pay to much for it. I have no idea about the value of these coins, I will tell you it is pretty SWEET! Nice find!
Just got the coin valued.................not as high as I hoped but still an opportune buy............this will retail at $275. The 20c NFLD 1912 MS63 retails at $800 so v pleased with that too. Better stick to this than continue with the Chinese stuff where I just got my fingers burnt....marbury518
Well for starters, both NGC & PCGS absolutely cannot properly grade Canadian Issues . Usually the assigned grades are at the very least one or two grades above the true grade. The Third Party Grading Company I subscribe to, is ICCS . International Coin Certification Service , located in Toronto, Ontario .
Agree Yes i would agree, that's why I went to a Canadian authority.....he was supportive of the 20c and more critical of the grade attributed to the 1c 1908.
That’s nice… Cost wise??? This kind of material is very hard to shop for price. Getting you own coin certified is also costly and you add the risk of NGC finding a problem. Not to worry, NGC grading is accepted worldwide; at least that’s been my experience, with more than a few of their slabs. IMHO you did fine. But that just my way of looking at it, others have the right to disagree.
Ngc Just to say I had an unexpected e-mail form NGC saying that if they had graded my coin MS64 or MS 60 whatever it was and it had scratches they'd take it back and if it didn't pass muster they'd give me another correctly graded coin or the money difference.........now would I have got such a really polite, helpful message from other TPG? They even sent me instructions about telling if the scratches are on the coin or the slab and an special number to make such a submission/claim..........how refreshing!!
With most TPG'ers you can't have a 64 that is brown .. red-brown maybe, but not brown. The retail in Trends for 60B (as high as a Brown coin gets in Trends) is $50. 62 RB (as high as an RB can get in Trends) is $75. If you like it, great, but don't think it will cross as a 64 to any other TPG.
. High grade copper/bronze coins ……….. IMO Very beautiful, especially stuff from the British Empire, nice find.
