Well everyone, I am asking that if you have time, and would be kind enough, to please post pictures of coins that are slabbed and graded, and wait for my opinions on the grade. I would also ask, that if others can resist offering their opinions, that they wait until I have posted mine, so that my mind can remain unbiased. It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much.
Here are a few: Coin #1, NGC graded it PR 66. Coin #2, PCGS graded this one PR 63 BN. Coin #3, NGC graded it XF 45. Coin #4, PCGS graded it MS 64 BN.
Okay, here are my guesses: 1. au-58 2. ms-62 brown 3. vf-35 brown, possibly xf-40 4. AU-55 Possibly a 58. Brown How did I do?
I'll post some photos tonight..... Since you have posted your grades for the 4 coisn above...here are my guesses...(Hey Mike...any chance of getting the photos smaller for us on dial-up its hard to get them....I have a thing on my computer that makes the larger photos lower quality so they will load faster and it uses it big time on your photos ) NOTE--I have some of these photos on low quality so I could be way off.... 1#PF64 2#MS62--that might be a PF...and if so PF62 3#XF45 4#AU58..pretty nice and I would almost bet that it would get an MS grade... Speedy
Lol, I think the first one is a proof now that it has been pointed out to me, and I'll revise my guess to what speedy said, however it seems that the strike is weaker than the circulation strikes?
Wow, it is very obvious I believe that the first one is a proof. I guess I should learn more about proof and circulation strikes.
I'll throw up a few, but you have to wait until I get them back from ANACS. The last one's deceptive.
Superdave, I think au-55 or 58 on the large cent. Au-55 or 58 on the barber half (ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL btw), and I can't see the reverse of the morgan, but from the front it looks 63, but I'm going to guess you aren't going to bother having it slabbed that low, so it must be higher.
Awesome. I was going to guess that, but I couldn't tell if one spot was a mark on the slab or the coin. I'm assuming it was on the slab.
Yeah it so hard to get a good pic. thru the acrylic. Here's another for you . I think this one is gonna be a bit harder-those pesky quarters so difficult to grade :smile -PCGS
Right on the money ! MS66 Hope I'm not highjacking this thread but here's another- How are you with errors ? 2001 1c On 10c Planchet-NGC
Zane...remember...it is harder to grade by photo than it is in hand IMHO.... Here are some photos.... The Half is NGC....cent and $5 is PCGS....I think they are graded right....the half IMHO will be the hardest the grade out of these three. Speedy
Zane - for your purposes you would be far better off to work out a deal with a coin shop. Have the owner pick a group of slabbed coins at random and cover the grade. Then when you visit - you grade them. Write your grades down and don't remove the covers until you have graded all the coins. Then check and see how you did. Do that every day for a couple of weeks - you'll be surprised how much ya learn. Then work on grading the pics
GD, that sounds like a pretty good idea, but unfortunately the closest coin dealer is about 2 hrs away . There is one guy who is in on mondays, but he only deals in raw coins . If I was near my parents house I'd be near about 10 dealers
